The Only Living Boy in New York Audience Reviews

More Review
Perry Kate Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Micitype Pretty Good
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
asoapboxopera Writing about writers usually goes well, because they (we?) know each other. But it also tends to reveal the same styles for the same grandiose thoughts, as with Jeff Bridges' character's thoughts and those of the also drunk, and also wise, uncle at the title character's friend's wedding. The writing in this movie is beautiful at times, but when the plot falls flat, it makes the writing feel weaker than it is. However: that is not to say it isn't very enjoyable. It is. It is far more heartwarming than its plot would suggest. And while it seems almost French in nonchalance, intermingling, and malaise, it also is delightfully American in the portrayals of/by Jeff Bridges, the artists, and the simple comedy amid silence. Those are difficult to pull off, and the credit goes to Jeff Bridges and to the writer, Allan Loeb, for bringing it all to fruition. The story may feel a touch coincidental, but the way it reverses (almost literally) towards a happy ending is so inspiring and uplifting and centering that I can easily ignore the disinterest both I and the movie appeared to have for those lesser points in the movie.Thank you!
bshaef If Amazon's picture selectors picked this they need to go back to film school 101 and learn what makes a good picture. The only saving grace was that the actors gave strong performances even though the story was totally unbelievable. I think I felt their shame more than once when they delivered every know cliche' known to movie going audiences. I'll bet Jeff Bridges was red all the way through the bar scene. Jeff Bezos may be the richest man in the world but he better get some people in his film group with a more discerning eye, or his competitors will force its closing pretty soon. Maybe this one is why he recently fired one of the top guys in the division.
mattscandale The movie's timeline lost 20 years somewhere - a hole bigger than any in Back To The Future. The movie was made in 2016 and was set in the present, featuring cell phones and mentioning Google, the closing of CBGBs (2006), and the death of Lou Reed (2013). One character says he's 22 years old. So that means he couldn't have been born before 1991, although I'd place it more like 1995. But then we learn from the character of his father, who looks every bit as old as the 68 years the actor was in filming, that his son was conceived when the father was a young man, back in the hippie days, listening to Simon & Garfunkel records. Simon & Garfunkel split up in 1970, when the actor playing the father was 21 years old. It all makes sense except for the fact that the son is supposed to be 22. The son should have been more like 45. Or the entire movie should have taken place circa 1995. And the character of the young girlfriend was so overweight and unattractive as to strain credibility. Bad casting there. Overall, the movie was innocuous and vapid.
jlf1022 Jeff bridges character was my favorite, because he tell us the story and I love his tone of voice. Kate Beckinsale beauty and voice are a great addition to this engaging drama. Pierce Brosnen gives a wonderful performance. In addition the young Cahlum Turner conveys emotions masterfully For those that enjoy emotions and feeling this is your film.
