AniInterview Sorry, this movie sucks

TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Tweetienator There are three movies of the same story I am aware of: The Last Man on Earth with the great Vincent Price from 1964, The Omega Man with Charlton Heston from 1971 and I am Legend (2007) with Will Smith. I like all three of them and if you got the time I recommend that you watch all three of them.Charlton Heston plays Dr. Robert Neville, who thinks he is the only survivor of an apocalyptic war. The other survivors are infected people who hunt him at night, only in daylight he can go out of his fortress because the infection made the infected very sensitive to the light. (In The Last Man on Earth the infected are like vampires, not only fearing light but also garlic and Mr. Price hunts them with stakes).The movie centers on the despair of a lonely and lost man and his fight to survive against all odds. A classic dystopian movie.

StuOz Chuck Heston is the last man on earth.The first half of this movie has the works: great actors, top story and a perfectly matched musical score. The last half of the flick is also very good but missing the impact of the early sections.But if you want a last-man-on-earth-movie, this is the best one to see! Stay clear of I am Legend (2007)...the early sections of The Omega Man had that great music playing over it, which is missing from I Am Legend.I have made several viewings of this film since the 1970s, I have always enjoyed it, but I had a curious reaction to a screening in 2002: I just could not watch it! This was soon after the events of September 11th and The Omega Man just seemed a bit too close to what might actually happen on earth one day.But I am now back to watching and loving the film.

mmallon4 I began The Omega Man with some initial trepidation from the not so great editing (including a pointless fade away on zooming out shot) the use of sped up footage and obvious line dubbing; thankfully after that it gets better. It must appreciated the filmmakers clearing the streets of Los Angles with spanning, wide shots of the city in which it is deserted; no easy task. To accomplish this the filmmakers had to film during Sunday morning and due to filming at this golden hour the deserted streets and the golden light reflecting of the buildings has a real beauty to it. I don't know of the film's budget but it does come off feeling like a low budget production but does so in a charming way. The campy 70's sounding music score feels like it's on the verge of killing the mood and being too corny but just about manages to avoid doing so.Charlton Heston's Nevillie feels like predecessor to modern action movie heroes with his use of one liners. The scene in which he pretends to negotiate with a dead salesman at a car dealership feels very Arnold Schwarzenegger. On the other hand I do find there is some Initial unintentional humour coming from seeing Heston dressed as an aristocrat and talking to a chess playing bust of Julius Caesar but once that settles these do showcase some poignant scenes of the last man alive trying to keep himself occupied; also I do love this little world he has created for himself in his apartment. Likewise seeing the later Republican Heston watching and the enjoying the film Woodstock and even reciting lines is intriguingly odd. The Omega Man also features one the earliest on screen interracial kisses between black and white. I don't know if it was intentional that a film about repopulating the Earth has an interracial romance but thankfully doesn't have to call attention to itself.The Omega is a perfect example of Charlton Heston's immense screen presence and his ability to carry a movie as he spends much of the run time alone. When I think "screen presence" several actors will pop into my head, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Clark Gable and of course Charlton Heston.

Matt Therault Overall I liked the movie. It's a pretty decent seventies flick. I really just wouldn't have put the premise that this was based on the I am legend novel.There are a number of quibbles I have: If the vampire psychotic things were totally against technology. I don't think they would be using sunglasses. Sunglasses are a piece of technology whether or not the "vampires" realized it. Also, their clothes are a form of technology. The catapult they use to attack his house is a form of technology. So, they essentially argue that technology brought down society. However, they still use technology. They just pick and choose what they want to use. I also look at the fact that his house was really poorly secured. Even without using the "technology" they didn't want to use. They should have still been able to take the house in faster than two years. You could just break his house, and set it on fire. All his windows were boarded up with were wood. The ending was also nothing like "I am Legend". As there was no real overarching irony which the novel is primarily known for. All those things aside though. I still like this movie. It is entertaining, and it keeps your attention somewhat throughout the movie.
