The Hundred-Foot Journey Audience Reviews

Diagonaldi Very well executed
Console best movie i've ever seen.
Maleeha Vincent It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
movieHIT88 Lovely film, like sitting around a warm fire. So many topics covered in this interesting film, about cooking and why many of us are so passionate about it! Flavours and where they take us, when we taste them, used as a vehicle to enhance the story line of this enjoyable film. Family, Racism, love, both young and older, patriotism, competitiveness, by seeing the other person's point of view and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, opening your mind up to new things or ways of doing things and new experiences. Many times a mixture of different ways of doing something, improve the end result. What drives us, realizing, at the end of the day, what is truly important. Kindness, family and friends support. Allowing yourself to believe that people's intentions are good. Wonderful acting performances by the 4 main characters, whilst set in a dream location.
mattrochman Overall, this is a fairly poor film. The first half was moderately enjoyable, though it was easy to predict how things would unfold. Once the main character gets a career break and heads to Paris (ie.. the second half of the film), it becomes bland, pointless and boring. In fact, at times I felt like two different films were made and joined together as it transitioned from a mildly amusing drama to a melodramatic vapid Hollywood drama.Spielberg and Oprah were producers - Americans making a European film... Needless to say that it has some ridiculous touches as a result. For instance, the main character starts having wine with dinner ... in Paris .. to indicate that he's dulling his pain by turning to drinking. Laughable. About 50 minutes of the last hour could (should) have been left on the cutting room floor. The love aspect of the film was totally predictable, though unconvincing. The "quickie" they have towards the end of the film was a truly eye-rolling addition.Strangely it also fails as a foodie film. Aside from the overly predictable and silly "French with Indian influences" cuisine thing, there are flat out mistakes from anyone who knows a thing or two about French cooking. Hollandaise sauce is made with clarified butter, not oil. The latter is used to make mayonnaise. Furthermore, you would never take Hollandaise sauce on a picnic as the butter would solidify. One of many.Nit picking aside, it's ultimately hard to identify where the film is a legitimate success and it's not recommended viewing!
Sushan Konar One of the very public obsession of our times is cooking. From multiple versions of the high-profile 'masterchef' to dubious cookery shows on local cable channels - we seem to have developed an incredible appetite for the process of food preparation, ascribing hitherto unheard of celebrity status to chefs. The effect of this craze has been rather pleasurable on cinema ('Ratatoulle' is an absolute favorite). 'The Hundred-Foot Journey' takes advantage of this culinary fashion but brings so much more to the table. It is the story of an Indian family immigrating to a completely unknown part of the world in search of a new life and new beginning. There have been many such families who built their lives up from scratch, depending simply on a set of special skills. This particular movie simply uses the art of cooking as its medium of storytelling.Helen Mirren and Om Puri, renowned stalwarts of Holly-/Bollywood, are such pleasures to watch as they bring out the old-world essence of France and India. But it is heart-warming to see that the new generation embraces the different as well as acknowledges the roots at the same time. Above all its a beautiful movie with a high 'feel-good' (in a positive sense) quotient, with an endless rerun value at the end of a busy day or on a rainy afternoon.
forster-80382 I find those who pan movies such as this extremely self centered and lack the ability to just sit down and enjoy a story for it's merits All of you who judge presentations in a negative context obviously do not even have a glimmer of the ability to create the story telling presented' sour grapes are always easier to spew than those of quality. Shame on you for trying to denigrate the weaving of a charming story I think you most likely do not like kittens and puppy's enjoy life it is short and you are wasting your prime years being a self centered toilet tissue as dad always used to say there are more horses as* holes than horses
