Sean Lamberger Among the worst rubber-suit monster movies I've ever seen, this abomination from the early '90s can't decide if it wants to be a corny kids' special or a gross late-night horror picture. Straddling both in lieu of a decision, it lifts a gratingly naive cast and absurdly simple dialog from the former, then the nasty creature effects and wanton violence from the latter. I'd be remiss not to mention the awesomely overblown slash cuts and stock synth sound effects that accompany every change in scenery. Basically this is action porn, with a sketchy storyline and intensely awful acting only present as a means of transport from one slugfest to the next. Problem is, between the imagination-free choreography and the awkward, unwieldy makeup, the fights are just as bad as everything else. Mark Hammill, in one of his darkest days as a professional, dons a ridiculous mustache and over-sized leather jacket in a vain attempt to fit the part of a tough, grizzled detective. Like everything else thrown on the screen in this unmitigated disaster, it doesn't work.

ccthemovieman-1 The "bad news" outweighs the "good news" for this movie.BAD - The dialog in here is very stupid; the acting is poor (Jack Armstrong, Vivian Wu?); there is too much violence and simply a general Class B-type production feeling about this whole film, making it dumb overall. GOOD - It was very light on the profanity and sometimes had some pretty good special-effects with the humans turning into monsters.STRANGE - Added to the cast is television star Jimmie Walker, who played a goofy "Kid Dyn-O-Mite" character on TV, and Mark Hamill, from the hugely-successful Star Wars movie series. Wow, times must have gotten tough for those two actors to be in this movie!OVERALL - After watching this for an hour, it was hard to get interested enough to finish the film.

dominion76251 I was very excited to find this movie at the video store, being a huge fan of anime. Unfortunately, this one let me down BIG TIME. The storyline was as gay as could be and the villainous creatures just looked stupid. They tried to make the film far too slapstick, or comedic in nature. It played out like some Saturday morning kid-safe garbage. I'm not sure WHAT the he** happened to Mark Hammil, but his acting was pathetic. And Jimmy Walker as a shape-changing villain?!? Don't waste your time. If you like anime, you would be far better off watching "Fist Of The North Star" for a live action adaptation of classic anime.

Hariel441 I give this movie so low a rating because of the terrible waste they made. I have seen the animated series and read a lot of the manga this was adapted from, and they dropped the ball so hard it bounced back in their faces.The Guyver is actually one of my favorite superheroes, and has awesome powers that were never touched on in this movie, which was made out to be more of a comedy than sci-fi/action. The acting was below par, and even the appearance of Mark Hamill (who is NOT in fact the guyver as portrayed on the cover) couldn't save this movie from the lunatic director who made the barest nod to the original story or setting.The costumes were good, and even some of the fighting was passable, but that's where the praise for this movie ends. See Guyver 2: Dark Hero for a much better representation of this unique and fascinating hero.
