Acensbart Excellent but underrated film

Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

Zandra The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

erichansen1836 This film is flawed. Yes, it is a beautifully made film with great purpose, and I am thankful for it. However, it is not a faithful account of the Gospel totally as the film states (at the beginning). One major issue exists. Jesus claimed that the only sign he would give was that of Jonah. That just as Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the great fish, so the Son of Man will be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth. "Tear down this temple, and in 3 days I will rebuild it again". Jesus was speaking of his body. The narrative in the film states that Jesus was crucified on Friday. This statement does not jive with Jesus' claims. Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, laid in the tomb before sundown, then rose from the dead after sundown on Saturday (thus 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth). What Jesus did after Sundown on Saturday until early morning Sunday when Mary discovered him is not an issue. Perhaps he prayed? The most important point of the film is that Jesus is the Son of God, and that believing in him one has eternal life. That is the great message of the Bible and is conveyed in the film. However, why would a Jew believe this message when it is obvious to them that Christians have it all wrong when it comes to Jesus' sign of Jonah? The following passage used in the film incorrectly uses Friday instead of Wednesday as the day Jesus was crucified.Good News Bible Translation 3.John 19:31 [ Jesus' Side Is Pierced ] Then the Jewish authorities asked Pilate to allow them to break the legs of the men who had been crucified, and to take the bodies down from the crosses. They requested this because it was Friday, and they did not want the bodies to stay on the crosses on the Sabbath, since the coming Sabbath was especially holy.

jauamgar My husband and I don't usually go for these types of movies and I can honestly say that I can rarely sit through an entire one but my brother in law recommended it to us and insisted that we borrow his copy to watch it. Well by night's end he forgot to give us the DVD to take home & we didn't remind him, LOL. About a week later a small package arrived that neither of us ordered, to our surprise inside was a copy of The Gospel of John purchased for us as a gift by my brother in law. Well neither of us wanted to be an ingrate so we sat down to just to check out a bit of the movie so we could at least say we saw it. Well were we glad we did. Mostly because Henry Ian Cusick's portrayal of Jesus Christ was absolutely outstanding and kept us watching. He had all the peace and calming effect that I can only imagine of Jesus radiating from him. I felt so at peace watching this man portray Jesus Christ that I just had to comment to my husband on what I was feeling and he agreed one hundred percent. Well needless to say we watched the entire movie and enjoyed it a great deal. Although all the actors did great jobs in their rolls I would recommend this movie on the basis of Mr. Cusick's performance alone. I must say too that I was thrilled to see Mr. Cusick appear on Lost which is also a fantastic TV show that only improved with the addition of Mr. Cusick to the cast. I hope everyone will enjoy the movie as much as we did and don't forget to check out Lost.

jcvincent1986 It's a great movie. I've seen both The Passion of the Christ and The Gospel of John... I'll go for this movie. It's more of putting John's gospel into a movie so we won't be tired reading. It's a great movie and I watched it on a holy week back in 2005.I love the last part of the movie when they were all walking in the shore. That's the greatest part.I recommend it to everyone who loves to watch movies that are based on the Gospel. This movie will surely satisfy you.Great movie.

johnmichael-2 This is a very, very faithful adaptation of the Gospel of John, including every scene from the book with the same dialog, etc. The actors do a great job, and the direction was wonderful. The music also was very good, and the whole thing was just beautiful to watch.However, the faithfulness to the Gospel, while a good thing (its faithfulness helped enable it to skip the controversy that "The Passion" generated), caused a few problems near the end. First, in the book of John, Jesus preaches to his disciples for about 3 chapters during the Last Supper. Let me tell you, that part of the movie was BORING, and seemed to stretch on for nearly half an hour. It was like listening to a sermon--it would have been interesting in church, but had no place in a movie. And the Gospel of John doesn't have as much about the crucification as the other books, so that part of the film was disappointingly anticlimactic.But, all in all, the film was wonderful to watch.
