The Disappearance of Alice Creed Audience Reviews

Wordiezett So much average
Noutions Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
FlashCallahan It's wonderful that such a low budget thriller, with a cast of literally three people can be so intense and stand proud with many a big budget thriller. It's a simple set up: two ex-convicts kidnap the titular character for a princely sum, and plan to start a new life with the money they accumulate, after all, they fell for each other in prison. As these films go, one is good, and one is bad, so when the bad one goes out,the good one takes a little pity on her, and this is where the film veers toward leftfield. It turns out that Alice is in a relationship with one of the kidnappers, and he was planning to take the money for them both to start a new life.A war of nerves begins with the kidnapper in a dual relationship, trying to hide everything that has happened.Although Compston and Arterton are wonderful in their respective roles, it's Eddie Marsan who makes the film the tense thrill ride that this film turns out to be. He's an absolute menace in the film, literally having an unhinged manner about him during every moment he has on screen.Even when he is off screen, he makes moments almost unbearable, such as the scene where Compston is trying to reason with Alice, his intense knocks at the door, are an uncomfortable accompaniment to the scene. It loses its way toward the end a little, but for the most part, it's a little gem of a movie.See it for Marsan.
begob The first bit of dialogue comes after 5 mins: "OK". That's after a great sequence showing two men set up a hideout for what they're about to do. No waiting about - they turn up with a kidnap victim and tie her to the bed in a humiliating process. What follows is of varying quality. I wonder if a lot of the dialogue might have been left out - just convey the action and reactions in the same style as the intro. As it is, this is a simple love triangle (the only relationship between the victim and one of the kidnappers is he knows she knows his name) requiring various twists. Not completely successful, with a few "the stupid, it hurts" moments - but well worth watching.ps. None of the characters actually loves any other, so it's not really a love triangle. That's why the victim and the other kidnapper aren't jealous of each other. Maybe that lack of tension holds the story back, why people keep picking on the twists when it's the characters that cause the dissatisfaction.
Ajit Tiwari Alice Creed dragged by two masked men in a van, then placed in a room with padded walls and tied to a bed with handcuffs. The kidnappers are after a big ransom, which they expect from her father. But things do not go quite as planned, and soon the victim finds that one of the two criminals is not unknown. It starts a big confusion with an uncertain outcome.Casually, the story takes us through simple but devilishly effective twists to heights of suspense, downplaying the role of each of the three protagonists, in turn changing role. The terms "victim", "hangman" and "accomplice" here are undermined, leaving the audience stunned by the last surprise. Always remaining credible, despite a story about the razor's edge, it almost closed (the action is limited to a room, a kitchen, a shed and wood), owes much to the quality of the interpretation of the three actors. Some scenes really stand on their toes and the director even manages to make the audience laugh, despite a rather dramatic base. The psychology of the characters is fairly extensive, leaving us in the most total about the real intentions of each question. The interpretation of these is rather successful, despite a few details that it's hard to believe. But the director and maybe wanted to highlight the strangeness of the atmosphere of the film: an oppressive atmosphere, in perfect agreement with the narrow apartment where the two men have taken up residence. The film also plays a lot of silence, further increasing the pressure. However, it is too much pressure we can criticize the film. The story seems to get bogged down, and because of the pace is a bit too slow, you wonder if the director really knows where he is going ... The atmosphere may sometimes literally crush the viewer. And even if this is deliberate on the part of Blakeson, we left with the impression that he may have wanted to make a little too ... Result: a few wrong notes, but an effective thriller throughout.7.3/10
radhrh I had no idea about this movie until I watched it, had never read a review nor knew anything about the plot, the characters or the actors playing them. I came to it with no expectations. But, boy am I glad I watched it now!The first 5 minutes of the film are virtually silent, there is no dialogue at least, as the "perps" go about there mission of acquiring the equipment required and setting up there lair. The first human sounds we hear are the screams of there victim, Alice Creed, as they drag her into the back of there stolen van. Cut to the pre-prepared apartment and the victim is seen, still kicking and screaming, being tied to a bed and her clothes cut from here, her hood is then removed and photos are taken. ( what a brave performance by Gemma Arterton ) Only then is she clothed once more by her captors. The whole manor in which the operation is carried out is one of well practised calm, almost like nurses dealing with an agitated patient, and this makes there actions all the more chilling. Its a truly great start to a movie, which then builds tension steadily throughout. There are many plot twists, some are a bit obvious, others are truly surprising and you are kept guessing until the very end. Some reviewers have criticised the plot as being contrived, others have questioned the characters actions in certain situations, others have said that the world outside the 3 characters should have been explored, the police an the father should have been involved etc. Others have questioned the UKs mobile phone network. Well, I'm sorry people but if you let this type of nit picking criticism detract from your enjoyment of a fabulously entertaining movie then more fool you.If on the other hand you can put your hyper critical mind on hold for 90 minutes then you are in for a treat.
