Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

Coventry I'm actually surprised that films like "Porky's" and "American Pie" are so popular and notorious while there also exist movies like this! Watch "The Cheerleaders" ONCE and you're guaranteed to have a new 'standard' – if you can call it that – for insignificant sexploitation comedies. This is a shamelessly gratuitous and incredibly indecent comedy that makes you wonder (with great sadness) why this sort of stuff never happened to you in high-school. I never got attacked on the school bus by a horny redhead because she wanted to show her friend how to grab a guy's attention. None of my sister's hot friends never walked into my room half naked and requesting if I needed any help with masturbation, neither. What went wrong during my adolescent years?!? Anyway, the plot of "The Cheerleaders" is relatively unimportant. The girls of the Amorosa high school cheerleader team take their duties very seriously. They spend most of their days, not with studying of course, but with pom-pom practice and hanging out at the local diner to pick up hunky guys to have meaningless sex with. Young Jeannie dreams of joining the cheerleader club, as she's the last virgin in school and being a cheerleader reputedly helps to get laid. I guess losing your virginity can be the biggest and most essential mission for an intelligent and beautiful young high school girl… You can guess how the rest of the movie evolves. Jeannie narrowly has sex numerous times, but something always prevents it from happening at the very last moment, like peeping tom daddies or exploding water beds. But have no pity for poor Jeannie, as there's a great mission awaiting her on the days of the football team's most important game. The main reason why "The Cheerleaders" was (and still is) such an genuine drive-in crowd pleaser is because the film is a 100% unpretentious and ecstatic piece of entertainment. You know how this sort of films usually look like they feature a lot of playful sex and sleazy footage but eventually don't offer all that much? Well, "The Cheerleaders" completely isn't like that. There is a lot of sex, varying from sort-core to slightly-harder-core, and a whole lot of downright raunchy insinuations. All the cheerleaders look irresistibly ravishing – except for the tall blond lesbian wench who actually looked more like a transvestite – and they spend their entire screen time wearing either a very enticing cheerleader outfit or … nothing at all. The redhead is the crazy one (she has sex with the bus driver on the job), the brunette is the kinky one (sex with the coach amidst his playing tactics), the black girl is the gorgeous one and Jeannie is the one with "enough wool to knit a sweater with" ; if you know what I mean. If you ain't convinced yet, I don't know what will.

Scarecrow-88 Basically a raunchy, bawdy soft-core high school comedy featuring liberated(..to say the least)sex crazy nympho cheerleaders who proceed to bang anyone with a pecker in sight.The big game is coming between Amorosa(..our cheerleaders' team)and Central and we spend some time with these girls as they commence in their randy activities of seducing or simply ravaging a host of males. Lots of panties come off and sex is frequent with the usual expected high school jokes, such as the filthy janitor(..with a peep hole in his equipment room to spy on the girls as they get undressed), the virginal innocent who yearns for the right sexual experience, locker room stripping, giant orgy between the football team and cheerleader squad(..which results in their being too drained physically to participate successfully in the big game), the final game itself and the hi-jinx that ensues in regards to how Amarosa must combat their foes(..there isn't much of a competition since the cheerleaders actually ball Central as well in order for both teams to be on equal footing!).There's sex between a cheerleader and the group's "supplier"(..he has the ability to supply them drugs and favors in regards to skipping certain classes)in a vehicle as it goes through a car wash. One of the cheerleaders actually humps the school bus driver as he steers down the block. Jeannie(Stephanie Fondue), the virgin newcomer to the squad, is almost gang raped by the football team who found her naked in their shower(..it was an initiation trick by her girls). Jeannie's father is seduced by Claudia(Denise Dillaway)while watching a football game as the cheerleaders were having a slumber party. Bonnie(Jovita Bush)eyeballs Jeannie's brother, discovers him masturbating to a nude mag, and immediately propositions him! Debbie(Brandy Woods)offers herself to the Amarosa's football coach(..he himself in little more than a jock strap)and he accepts, providing some rear end plumbing. Debbie and a cooker go at it in the back of his hamburger stand. And, the sexual encounters go on and on.I watched the other Cheerleaders movies before this(..Swinging & Revenge)and expected this would be tame in comparison..boy was I in for a surprise. This movie is essentially a series of executed fantasies. Down through time most or many of us have pondered the idea of making sweet love to a cheerleader. While I found myself particularly uncomfortable watching a girl sitting up in the lap of a much older, grinning-from-ear-to-ear bus driver(..missing some teeth), as he attempts to keep from hitting cars parked in the neighborhood, or the scene where a middle-aged father gets the ride of his life, seemingly in heavenly bliss, these are obvious dreams come true, printed to celluloid. We even get a lesbian encounter between Patty(Kimberly Hyde)and her cheerleader coach. The Cheerleaders is another exploitation feature which perfectly embodies the uninhibited spirit thriving during this decade after the summer of love overflowed it's sexually free ways, spilling into the 70's. The girls seem absolutely fine in shedding their clothes at any given moment.. Especially tasteless fare, directed and acted embracing the joyous nature of love-less sex. Yeah, I enjoyed it. The camera spends a great amount of time observing the cheerleader squad's derrière, and we often get long pans up and down their bodies. The uniforms are ridiculously short(..thanks guys!)so that even when they aren't naked, they might as well be.

badvertisinguy this movie get a '3' out of 10, or roughly 1/3, because there are 6 cheerleaders in this movie but only 2 are worth looking at, and that's 1/3. the two better chicks are the cheerleaders captain (denise dillaway), an attractive brunette with healthy natural breasts; and the dark girl (jovita bush), who has a rockin' body highlighted by magnificent nipples. but better still isn't great. none of these chicks would even qualify for the H.O.T.S. squad.two scenes stand out - the young virgin cheerleader (stephanie fondue, a plain Jane with a nice ass) has to go through initiation by showering in the boys' room and is caught. she has her towel ripped away from her naked, and is fondled at length. later, the cheerleader captain gets it from behind from the coach while his old game highlights play on tape in the background as if play by play of his conquest.but since the story is stupid, the sex situations clichéd, and the acting abysmal, the women at least need to be sexy and good looking and they're mostly not. if the cheerleader captain and the dark girl are a 6 on the 1-10 scale, to be generous there's a 5, two 4's and a 3 leftover. not a good ratio, even for exploitation fare.

koosmal I found "The Cheerleaders" to be the best of the sexploitation films, much more entertaining than 'Flesh Gordan', 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls', 'Fritz the Cat' The crowds really loved the picture, the laughter tended to drown out some of the following lines. Everyone left with a smile on their face. We played it to a packed house nightly. The print that we has was x-rated, though soft core. I do not believe it was a self imposed x, as the beginning of the had the MPAA X rating with the blue background preceeding the title and credits. I was operating the Star Theater in Coshocton, Ohio. We opened the film the first week of January 1974. The prosecuter saw our advance advertising and threatened to arrest us if we showed the film. I had a partner, and we first decided to 'pull' the film and got 'Lady Sings the Blues' as a backup-even changed the marquee to 'Lady Sings the Blues'. We reconsidered and called the prosecuter's bluff, showed 'The Cheerleaders', we did not get arrested. The Coshocton Tribune's lead story on 01/04/74 was 'Theater Told to Pull X Rated Feature'. We sold out in 15 minutes of opening, the film held the house record until beaten by 'The Exorcist'. We brought it back a few months later with equally good ticket sales. Why? word of mouth, it was a crowd pleaser, this was before videos, DVD's, cable was basic, the raunchy language and nudity still had shock value-especially in a small town.
