I've been disheartened recently with what my country chooses to create in the English language, but this is not one of those times.I was pleasantly surprised with this short, which has the feel of a feature film, and tells a wonderful message about science and denial, exploration and insularity. It has an intense pulse-pounding moment that shocks, even if you see it coming. And it raises just the right questions at the end that it would be a great topic to discuss in classrooms.I'd almost like to see it continue into a feature-length film, but I wonder if that might somehow cheapen the story, if we learn too much about the origins of the squid. (You know how these things tend to turn out, with Really Great Revelations of Really Awesome Effects -- Yawn.) But the clues offered in the film are delightful, and I just can't help myself -- I want more.
