Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Michael_Elliott The Ambulance (1990) *** (out of 4)Josh Baker (Eric Roberts) works for Marvel comics and one day on his way to work he introduces himself to a young woman who eventually falls sick. An ambulance is called but later that evening when checking on her Josh realizes that she didn't go to any hospital. Pretty soon he's wrapped up in a mystery involving an old-fashioned ambulance that seems to be doing some bad business.Larry Cohen's THE AMBULANCE is pretty much what you'd expect from the cult director and that's a rather offbeat picture that doesn't fit into any one genre. The film is a rather entertaining one thanks in large part to its wonderful cast but there are also enough strange moments that make it worth watching. With that said, there's no question that it eventually runs out of fuel but more on that in a bit.What I enjoyed most about the picture was the cast all of whom are in fine form. This includes Roberts in his role as early on he gets to show off his charm but as the film moves along he also gets to show off his comic timing. James Earl Jones and Megan Gallagher are both good playing cops with Jones really shining in his role. Then you've got Red Buttons thrown in for comic relief and he really gets some fine moments here. Stan Lee also gets an extended cameo here.Cohen's screenplay makes perfect use of the New York City locations and I also thought it had a good mixture of humor and mystery. I really wouldn't call this a horror film but at the same time some of those elements are scattered around as well. THE AMBULANCE eventually runs out of steam towards the end and I think in the end it could have lost five or ten-minutes worth of running time. Still, fans of Cohen should enjoy the film for what it is.

d_m_s The Ambulance is a pretty unusual film and as far as B-Movie's go it's slightly above average and is quite an enjoyable watch as a one-off but I don't feel there is any repeat-viewing value.The story itself is naff - an unscrupulous doctor and a load of henchmen kidnap diabetic people in order to sell them on for some kind of medical experiments. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense and there are plot holes but I didn't really care about any of that because once I started watching I continued doing so not for the story but for Eric Roberts's performance, the randomness of the whole film and just to see where it would end up going.Eric Roberts plays a Marvel comic book artist who tries picking up a girl in the street. She collapses and is taken away in an old-style ambulance. There's something obviously dodgy about the ambulance and the paramedics and when Roberts goes to visit the woman at the hospital only to find she was never admitted, he begins his journey to find her.I did not realise the film was supposed to have a comedy element when I first started watching so Eic Robert's hair and performance was a little jarring at first but once I got into the swing of things his performance was the best thing about this film. Other performances were a bit random. Some were comical, some were straight, some were just weird (James Earl Jones). Overall it gave a weird effect to the film.The pace was good and I didn't get bored at any point. As mentioned, it was an enjoyable one-off watch but don't think it's a film worth re-visiting.

atinder I only found out about this movie a few months ago, when first heard the name of the movie thought it be about Ambulance kills people, that not what the plot was.Josh meet this girl on the road, that flirting with her and then Ambulance pick her up and later he goes to see her, only to find out she didn't go to hospital, then Josh tries solve what happened to her, others become involved and go missing after they picked by this Ambulance .I don't know what to make of this movie, i found the movie very entertaining there was a lot action in this movie, with some really good dark Humor in this movie, with work well with all the action and drama in the movie The acting is this movie could been a lot better then it was from some of the people in the cast and same could be said about the fight scenes in this movie was not that well done. I liked how they ended the movie, it was very fitting ending of the movie.There was one think that I did not under stand was, why was is killing people in first place, I don't I may of missed something or i had too read between the lines.6 out of 10 well for really dark humour.

merklekranz "The Ambulance" is not really a "black comedy", although it does have moments of dark humor throughout. It really is sort of a hybrid comedy-suspense film. Eric Roberts carries things as the perplexed wannabe lover boy, while James Earl Jones comes and goes as a perplexed, somewhat irrational police detective. The movie is not overall terrific, but there are some memorable scenes, especially relating to the ambulance itself. Overall for a B movie, "The Ambulance" delivers enough entertainment value to recommend seeing it, however I doubt multiple viewings would be that rewarding. .......................... - MERK
