Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

grandcyn Based on a trued story this is a wonderful, moving story that will being tears to your eyes; It's good to know that the bodies of men killed in battle are treated so respectfully; not only is the procedure of taking Chance's body to his hometown for burial, and the military escort moving but the reactions of all people encountered en route were wonderful to see; it's a docudrama, not a documentary , and the the actors to a wonderful job

bludog_3 One can't put in words what this movie means to me. I was 44 when I enlisted in the Army giving up my career as a District Manager so that I could do what we ask of our children. Although I spent 6 years in the Air Force when I was younger it wore on me seeing the news of those losing their life fighting for out Country. Why should it only be the young who are willing to put their lives on the line for what they believe in. So yes, I can relate to what Kevin Bacon's character felt, the guilt. This movie should be required in all schools prior to Memorial Day weekend.

guchman101 I'm not sure the people who give low ratings to this movie know what the point is. They describe it as overzealous patriotism and military propaganda and all of that. They talk about it in terms of the fact that they think our actions in Iraq are immoral. This movie isn't about any of that at all. It's not meant to be a propaganda film or a movie about any war in particular. It seems like the low ratings are from people who disagree with the politics of the right wing parties in the United States. Either that or from people who didn't seem to understand the purpose of this movie.The acting isn't supposed to be of the Gone with the Wind variety because the whole point is that it's a tribute to everybody that serves and has served our country, whether they're alive or dead. It's supposed to be emotional and very simple. There's no action because it's not an action movie. There's a plot, it's just too simple for a lot of people to treat as a plot. The plot is the process of a Marine who dies going home to be buried. Regardless of what people think about the politics of wars and the political leadership of our country, the people who serve our country in the military etc. deserve respect. This movie gives them that respect and does a superb job.Despite the bad reviews, I think a great many people appreciate those who serve in the military and appreciate when someone sacrifices their life for this country. The people who hate this movie have every right to. I just think they're projecting their political views onto a movie that isn't about politics. I disagree with a lot of what our political leadership does but that has nothing to do with anything in this movie. The people who serve in the military deserve this tribute to them.

LydiaOLydia "Taking Chance" is the story of Lt. Colonel Kevin Bacon accompanying the body of a fallen Marine from the body's arrival in the USA from Iraq to its final resting place in Wyoming. In one sense, it is a well crafted film--somber and respectful and encouraging us all to contemplate the lives and deaths of heroic soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen.A deeper look, however, reveals it to be a shamelessly manipulative bit of propaganda that would not hesitate to stoop to any stereotype, cliché, or contrivance to beat you over the head with its militarist message.Ultimately, the message here is not of tragic, senseless loss, but of deification. "If you die wearing the uniform of a US Marine, in death you will become a demi-God." It is little different than the Japanese militarists telling their charges that they become kami (spirit-gods) at Yasukuni Shrine or of the elaborate militarist veneration of the dead of the Roman Legions (see: Titus Andronicus).And the worst part about it? It frames it in such a way, as all well-crafted propaganda does, that if you are somehow against the militarist message of this movie, that you are somehow against the best interests of the USA and of individual Americans--a blatant lie if there ever was one.
