It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

I want my money back, although I spent zero dollars to see this movie. Because after seeing this movie or the 15 minutes of the movie that I could stand before I had to turn it off; I felt cheated, like I had just purchased a defective product, and I would like to be reimbursed plus interest. Now, I realize that zero dollars typically accrues zero percent interest, but surely those 15 minutes of my life have a cash value; that's time out of my life I'll never get back and as I'm getting closer to the end of my life, surely we can base the interest off of how each moment of my life grows more precious as I approach the grave. I WILL ACCEPT A CHECK.

Let me tell you something. This movie stinks almost as much as that skanky world-class douche Madonna.Stupid and boring, the director (Madonna's then-husband) didn't know what kind of movie he wanted to make, a comedy or a drama. The script is non-existent and all the actors - especially that idiot Madge - are thoroughly embarrassing to watch. But maybe the worst thing about this worthless garbage is that Madonna sings on the soundtrack robbing the film of any possible sophistication and making it nothing more than a plug for the really ignorant members of the audience to go out and buy one of her lame CDs.Truly terrible. Further proof that Madonna is nothing more than a cheap no-talent bimbo who got lucky in the entertainment industry a long time ago.

I think people are criticizing this movie so much for one reason only: because Madonna is in it. Most of these people probably haven't even seen this - or any other - Madonna movie, but it's somewhat trendy to say "Madonna can't act".I think she is not *that* bad an actress. Actually, Elisabeth Banks is the one who can't act. But Madonna gets the job done. I thought she was great in this. I have seen some of her movies, and didn't really like any of them, except for this one.I thought the whole "Giuseppe in charge" situation was a bit over the top (the situation itself, not the acting), especially when he assaults her, but, other than that, it's a thoroughly enjoyable movie. If nothing else, it's worth seeing just for the scenery, and, for me, the gorgeous and charismatic Jeanne Tripplehorn, who, in my opinion, is majorly underrated as an actress.

Not for a moment did I think, as I slid the DVD into my player, that I would think this was a good film. I mean, it stars Madonna and, ten years later, even *I* had not seen it, so clearly I knew it was bad. However, I could not have prepared myself for how truly bad this film is. I mean really, really bad.About a rich woman and a migrant Italian fisherman getting stranded on a deserted island and inexplicably falling for each other, this film has absolutely no redeeming features at all. I have never heralded Madonna's acting skills, but in films like "Who's that Girl" and "Shanghai Surprise," she was not as bad as critics have made her out to be. But in this film, she did herself no favours...her performance here is absolutely the worst she has ever done. Watching made me cringe from the moment she appeared on screen to the moment the credits rolled, allowing for a sigh of relief. And, to be fair, Adriano Giannini's performance was not much better.I cannot begin to understand how in the world Guy Ritchie directed such a monumental pile of crap. And why did, Bruce Greenwood and Elizabeth Banks even sign on to appear in this? Just by reading the incredibly idiotic script, anyone associated to this film should have dropped it faster than a Kardashian's underpants at a basketball game.A monumental fail of epic proportions, even if you are a fan of Madonna, do not waste your time on this film. It made me lose any and all respect for her as an actress, despite her exquisite turn in "Evita." Ritchie would have been better off divorcing Madonna immediately than agreeing to make this ridiculous film. All copies of the film should be swept away and forgotten forever.
