Pluskylang Great Film overall

Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

kamikazeladybug The only good thing about this movie is that it featured attractive actors and actresses. While there were a lot of "jokes," almost none of them was funny; it was just minute after minute of unbearably awful dialog and sight gags revolving around "old people shouldn't have sex."I might have forgiven 'Surf School' for being an awful movie, but it's also one of the few that's managed to offend me on multiple fronts. Hey, it's 2005: you don't have to make five or six references in the script to how black your black character is, complete with Affirmative Action jokes. And I just love the gay guy wearing a red bikini, lisping about all of the beautiful boys while shaking his hips and petting other dudes for an entire agonizing scene! Yeah those queers sure are hilarious, aren't they? But maybe the worst part of the movie was the female lead, Doris. She starts out as a pretty goth chick, who doesn't talk much and loves reading (in the movie she's reading Sylvia Platt's "The Bell Jar.") Everyone thinks she's creepy and she's restricted to background action. But toward the end of the movie she's urged to "show her support" for the boys. How does she do this? Why, by getting into a tiny bikini, seducing the "bad guy surfers," and -as a fantastic final touch- transforming herself into a blond, of course! Suddenly she's the center of attention and SO much happier! Who knew the secret to happiness was to stop reading books and whore yourself out? I don't mean to say there's anything wrong with sexy female characters, especially in a beach movie. In fact, the gorgeous women and men in 'Surf School' were probably the only things that kept me from killing myself while watching it. But Doris's character does a complete and inexplicable 180 from a quiet intellectual to an oversexed exhibitionist, all in order to "encourage" a bunch of dudes who (with one exception) have been avoiding her for the whole movie.Sorry Joel Silverman, but that's not sexy. That's creepy as hell.

purpcow2 There is no doubt that this film was not intended to be an Oscar winner, but for what it is, i think the film was a success. We all know going into the film that it's a farce comedy meant to take you out of the real world and make you laugh, and that's exactly what the film did for me. I throughly enjoyed clicking my brain off for the duration of the film and simply relaxing and enjoying the humor. Harland was great as always. Also, considering that I myself am a something less than proficient surfer who nonetheless tries real hard and truly enjoys the sport for what it is (even though more often than not i'm falling off of my board), i think it was great and fun to watch the underdogs do the same. When you're out there on the ocean it's hard not to take the guff it gives you and get back out on the board, so watching anything surf related is rewarding when you can relate to it and laugh at it all the same.If you're looking for some relaxation and laughs, I recommend this movie!

drtbkr_80 okay, this movie was awesome, i mean hot chicks, nice waves, and hot chicks. what else could you ask for. like i said above see it over and over till your DVD doesn't play anymore, then but another one and watch it over and over. 10 out of 10!ive told my friends and even got them to love this movie. excellent direction and production. I'm trying to type as fast as i can so i can pop it in the old DVD player and watch it again right now!be sure to bring your snacks into the room and go to the bathroom before you start watching so you don't miss anything. and for those who didn't like the film... (expletive) you're dumb and have no sense of taste. big thanks to j for recommending it!

jennyh24 I never write these things, but my boyfriend rented this against my wishes since I used this site as a source. Well,I ended up watching with him and maybe it wasn't my kind of film, but it was kinda cute. I ended up feeling for the nerd and the silent girl. The main guy was amazing looking and really sweet. I think he made the movie. The Mahi Mahi guy was weird although my boyfriend loves him. I decided to write because it's not even close to being a bad film if you have the right expectations. The old hippies were LOL. I loved them especially the big woman. She was so funny. And I actually ended up liking the silent girl. Her singing voice was really pretty too. I think overall the movie was pretty funny and sweet.
