Sunshine Reggae auf Ibiza Audience Reviews

Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Coventry This is another entry in my very personal series of: "films I watched as a pre-teenager to see boobs". Millennials cannot imagine this, but during the 80s and 90s the Internet didn't exist and there was no such thing as free pornography! The only possibility for horny young brats like myself to see boobies were silly and light-headed sex comedies, usually from Germany. My local video store had quite a large collection of them stocked at the bottom shelves and, for several reasons, this "Sunshine Reggae on Ibiza" is one of the titles that I watched most frequently. Even though extremely dumb and formulaic, the thought of this film always spontaneously brings a smile to my face! First and foremost, there's the terrifically catchy title song "Sunshine Reggae" by Laid Back. To this day, I immediately associate this song with long hot summers, beautiful topless girls and colorful cocktails! There's also the pricelessly imbecilic face of lead actor/German comedian Karl Dall. His saggy eyes and natural "drunkard" looks are completely opposite to the rest of the cast existing only out of hot and curvy youngsters. Dall plays a simple East-Frisian cow farmer with a crush for pop-singer Linda Lu. When he receives a standardized response to his fan mail, he sees it as a personal invitation to come and spend the summer with his idol on the sunny island of Ibiza. Karl withdraws all his life-long savings from the bank and heads for Ibiza, where we meet many more jolly folks, including a jealous hotel owner and his lewd wife, two nerds on a quest to lose their virginity, a misogynistic artist, a beautiful woman determined to show him love again, and finally also pop-singer Linda who shatters glass with her laughter. During the third act, and presumably because they ran out of ideas, there's also a ridiculous sub plot in which Karl trades places with his wealthy doppelganger. "Sunshine Reggae on Ibiza" is delightful 80s euro-trash, featuring pretty girls with natural breasts and lots of dumb cliche-jokes that I saw for the first time. The most beautiful actress, Olivia Pascal, unfortunately keeps her bikini top on, though.
Horst in Translation ([email protected]) "Sunshine Reggae auf Ibiza" or "Sunshine Reggae on Ibiza" is a West German 80-minute film from 1983, so this one is already over 30 years old. If you read the names of director Franz Marischka and writer Erich Tomek, then you ma already know what to expect if you know a bit about German cinema. It's trash film. It's comedy mixed with (not too much really, we only see breasts) erotic aspects and these films are usually much louder and much more annoying than really entertaining and the attempts to be funny come off as fairly desperate. This is also partially true here. One of the main characters is played by Karl Dall and he did not try to display great range here, but just gave the film his usual approach at comedy. And this was probably the best he could have done as his portrayal indeed put a smile on my face occasionally and he was easily the best thing about this film. All other characters and performances are entirely generic and absolutely not memorable. I dare even say that they made a pretty bad script look even weaker. In terms of Ibiza or Frisia, which is mentioned at the very beginning and end, it is not worth watching for the landscapes either. It's very forgettable. The music is still one of the better aspects here, but not because it's great or so, but just because it does not suck as almost everything else about this film. Worth a watch for fans of Karl Dall, but everybody else should skip it. I personally am glad it was over way before the 90-minute mark.
hans-schnitzer One of the most underestimated German films ever! Funny story, told in a very amusing way, mixed with a lot of jokes. However the jokes were partly quite "old" they are presented in a way you must laugh. Besides, you find love stories, a little bit erotic, very much "holiday-feeling" and interesting actors like Karl Dall (the German comedy-king of the eighties), Jonny Juergens (son of Udo Juergens), Chris Roberts, Olivia Pascal (becomes later a famous TV-series star), Werner Boehm (aka Gottlieb Wendehals, "Polonaise Blankenese"), Bea Fiedler (German erotic queen), Isa Haller and last but not least Christine Schuberth ("Josefine Mutzenbacher"). Not to forget: The film music is amazing - the title song ("Sunshine Reggae" / Laid Back) is one of the best summer hits ever! I've seen this film more than ten times, but every time it is pure fun!
