Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Curt Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

GL84 Having escaped from the castle, the dreaded vampire king sets off to rescue his fledgling from the hands of a scientist and his assistant who have inadvertently stolen her to cure her of her vampiric condition leaving a trail of destruction in his path as he tries to regain his control.This was an utterly enjoyable and fascinating entry that continues the series along nicely. Among the more enjoyable elements in here is that much like the others the Gothic atmosphere of the situation is incredible and makes for a really entertaining time. There's so much to like about that here, with the enormous castle lit up with tons of candles, decorations and ornamentations befitting something of that look as we see the endless corridors and hallways within the castle grounds or the later findings inside the secondary resting place. Likewise, the atmosphere within here features plenty of strong Gothic imagery in its cobwebbed feast set over by skeletons, torn tapestries and damaged furniture which is quite impressive here enhancing the storyline further. The other big plus here in the film is the strong overall storyline that manages to not only tie into the other films but draw a rather interesting idea here with some nice elements about it. From the idea of the doctor's secret agenda holding down the first half and his insistence on the treatment affording the one in his care which gives this a whole lot of intrigue in the beginning half to the secondary scenes of the vampire creating his army of followers to join him on his journey which carries a solid secondary tactic here. The idea of the deception carried out by the doctor gives his scenes of treatment a rather nasty edge once it's discovered, and as it carries out the other storyline involving the search for the followers that gives this a lot to like as it turns into some fine action scenes in the later half. Those include some great moments in the hospital where a marvelous trap to capture him and a rather bloody escape with a great series of scenes showing them rampaging through town leading into the underground catacombs where the finale takes place as the huge cemetery is just incredible with its graves, tombstones and other such ornaments make for a chilling location to hold the action which is top-notch all around. As these all allow this one a great pace overall, coupled with the deformed look of the lead vampire and some fine gore effects all manage to hold this one up enough over its flaws. Among the only flaws here is the overall lack of information shown here as to what's going on, since the plot could've used a little more meat on it to flesh out the different allegiances as this one is quite complicated about who's on which side. When people initially seem to be good or bad, there's plenty of side-switching that manages to make this one seem more complicated merely for that sake than anything to do with the film as a whole. As that constant side-switching manages to keep the vampires from doing anything but making devious backhanded comments to each other but never really delving into what makes them engage in such trickery as it just seems to go on merely for that sake. Overall, though, this one was a lot of fun.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Nudity, some Language and violence-against-animals.

Freemheart I remember heard about how great are the vampire subspecies saga, and in fact the first three movies are great. Low budget films with a simple but good script and good acting. But nothing is forever, except the good acting of Anders Hove of course, the rest it's less than a shadow of the other movies. The acting of rest of the cast including Denice Duff is pathetic. There are many new good elements, but it doesn't fit well with the very bad acting of almost every member of the cast. In the end the director lose the good chance to make a very original sequel with something almost identic to the other previous movies. A real big shame.

sanzar "Subspecies IV: Bloodstorm" is yet another Charles Band production that unfortunately fails to deliver the goods. Journeyman director Ted Nicoleau fails to generate any suspense, let alone interest, in this uninvolving variation on well-worn Vampire themes, despite the advantage of authentic "Old-World" locations and morbidly Gothic set designs.Vampire King Radu Vladislas (Hove) survives (albeit, without much explanation) being staked and burned to a crisp (at the conclusion of part three, which forms the opening scene of this latest episode), and renews the search for Michelle, his fledgling vampiric initiate (Duff), who's been placed in a hospital with hopes of kicking her blood addiction. Her Doctor is a vampire, too, who seems to keep his bloodlust somewhat in check.Radu journeys to Budapest in search of Michelle and moves in with his former protege, Ash (Morris), whose exploits were recounted in the equally boring Full Moon release, "Vampire Journals". Ash is put out with the Master's intrusion and begins plotting to eliminate his uninvited houseguest. This sets up a three way battle for possession of the Bloodstone (the vampire doc wants it, too), an arcane artifact that dispenses an elixir good for vampires., with Michelle played as a pawn between the 3 bloodsucking protaganists.There's plenty of bloodletting, but little atmosphere or even shocks. Pic is decidedly unscary and fails to deliver even a modicum of thrills. One wonders what some of the great Italian directors from the 60's (Bava, Freda) could have done with this material. Certainly, they would have established a creepier mood, a must for effective vampire flicks.One bright spot is that the film looks & plays infinitely better than much of the Grade Z junk that Band usually releases. Small praise, but at least it's something.

Natalia Adriana Well, when I saw this movie and I was like, "what the heck?" I missed Subspecies and Bloodlust:Subspecies 3 but I really like Bloodstone:Subspecies 2. Even though the movie is not quite scary but the music is kinda spooky. I was shocked to see the nudity and stuff in Subspecies 4, and the way the stories goes..Boring! I fell asleep! But if you're a big fan of the subspecies series, I totally recommend subspecies V: The Awakening. The sad thing is that it's the last part of the subspecies series. Where in the end, Radu died and he's never going to come back as Michelle said "I finally could rest in peace".and I totally adore Ash (jonathon morris) and Serena because of their acting. I don't know why but I like it! Serena must find a mortal to kill Radu and they found Anna.. But when Radu died, not very scary though as Michelle hit him w/ a weapon and Anna just chopped off his head, burn his body and take his head out in the sun until it turns to dust. Easy ending but overall the movie is kinda cool. Oh and by the way, the beginning, it's kinda easy to kill Michelle's sis and her boyfriend's (or whoever) part. Just died in the car accident. Hmmm....
