Python Hyena Still Mine (2012): Dir: Michael McGowan / Cast: James Cromwell, Genevieve Bujold, Campbell Scott, Julie Stewart, Jonathan Potts: Independent Canadian drama about those things we hold dear. James Cromwell plays a farmer in his eighties whose wife has health issues so he sets out to build a new house in order to aid her. Problems piles up when he must pay money to build on his own property then plans must be drawn up, etc. This becomes predictable and repetitious but it is sure to tug the heart strings. This is a struggling relationship that contains much more heart than many of the young couples who just hook up and have sex. Cromwell delivers a strong performance as someone fighting the system, or in this case, government bureaucrats who are attempting to prevent him from moving forward in this project. Cromwell steals the moment just from speaking but we also feel his aches and desperation when constant opposition presents itself. Genevieve Bujold is equally good as his wife who breaks her hip in a stair fall. She suffers from memory loss, which presents a whole new issue. The supporting players are mainly the grown children who show up and urge Cromwell to move Bujold into a nursing home but he prefers to build the new house and ignore their gripes. Jonathan Potts also plays a less than stellar villain in his quest to relieve them of their home, as well as the new one. This is not blockbuster status but it is a touching film about true love that transcends through a lifetime of heartache and trials while realizing that nothing can take it away. Score: 8 / 10

bianaryabyss It's a wonderful heart warming story that puts on display some of the more troubling dynamics in our society. Everyone should see this movie! This movie could have been written about me. I've lived every aspect of this movie including the attitudes of an entitled younger generation incapable of doing anything without a certification, degree, governmental rubber stamp or some other external approval or authorization. America is giving up it's soul and drowning in the schemes of politicians and over leveraged business cronies and it's all on display here. I've actually had some of the same arguments with the same officials nearly verbatim.

DonB-5 This movie was under the radar on release. I love the actors and decided to watch it based on reviews on various sites. It is priceless. Though I can understand how it may not translate that well to a younger audience (and thus some of the low review scores). To really "get" this movie you need to be of a certain age - someone who can remember what it was like in the world 50 or more years ago. Before the age of rules and regulations gone mad and of bureaucracy which exists only for its own sake. My dad grew up on a farm in the 30s and I can see some of his life experiences through this film. Top notch acting and script, and a lot of subject matter to give the viewer something deep and meaty to chew on after the film is over.Anyone born before 1960 - this is a must view movie.

SnoopyStyle Craig Morrison (James Cromwell) is an old self-reliant New Brunswick farmer. He has 2000 acres where he does a little farmer. However he can't keep his cattle and the strawberry buyer won't buy his strawberries unless he has a refrigerated truck because of corporate policy. His wife Irene Morrison (Geneviève Bujold) is slowly degenerating. He decides to build a house with easier access for her and promises her that they won't move until they have to. Ruth (Julie Stewart) and John (Rick Roberts) are two of their many kids and they are concerned. It is harder and harder to care for Irene. Craig tries to build the house by himself but an overzealous bureaucrat keeps stopping him. Eventually he is in danger of prison for all the building code violations he's been accessed.James Cromwell is one of the most powerful actors around. He is amazing in this. Geneviève Bujold also shows so much power. It is based on a true story, and that realism permeates the entire movie. The story is a little bit small at times, but it never loses its human size story. This is above all a movie built on Cromwell's kind persona. I do wish they picked a better title. It's just too stridden and doesn't fit the love story at the heart of the movie.
