atlasmb Featuring strong performances, "Stars in My Crown" could have been an inspiration for "To Kill a Mockingbird". It has a narrator, a strong-willed central character who is a man of local authority, and a scene of mortal confrontation. But it lacks the focus and the depth of the "Mockingbird" story.Also, its central theme is not about the goodness of men, because its story implies that all goodness comes through faith, undercutting the hopefully humanist message that makes "Mockingbird" such a wonderful story.Still, "Stars" is an engaging film. It evokes the atmosphere of a small town. And the incidental music is strong. Joel McCrea plays a no-nonsense parson who is seen as the town's conscience. He is both pragmatic and a man of principles. A young Dean Stockwell plays the parson's boy with a convincing yet childish intensity.

r-flavin In all honesty I don't think id watch this film again. There wasn't really anything specific that i enjoyed about it and just like a few of the townspeople involved in this story I felt as if the idea of pushing religion on people was a bit off throughout the film. The Parsons played by Joel McCrea was a decent character a cowboy gone priest that uses his words of wisdom instead of violent acts to solve issues around his town. He brings forth a touching story but It just wasn't my cup of tea per say. I did however enjoy the camera work and the way in which the film was shot in each scene to capture a specific emotion. The music wasn't too overbearing although overplayed and the voices of the actors made this film watchable because each character felt raw and natural. I wish that the story was more focused on the town itself instead of mostly the Parsons and the narrator the this story the young boy the Parsons takes in. Id like to see every side of the story to justify each character's actions besides the laws of the land that take place throughout the film involving events after the civil war. Id suggest this movie to someone who doesn't mind too much religious views in their films other than that this film was a good concept but it didn't fulfill what i had felt the movie was going to be about from the beginning.

Richie-67-485852 It gets high marks because of Joel McCrea right off. Then, it is a Western and there is always so much to learn about the early wild days and how towns got started along with laws, rules, regulations and all the rest. I always notice how the buildings of these start-up towns were built one right next to another. One fire takes them all out. I wonder how many times a town was actually re-built from fire losses? Notice too the streets and roads. Good community flick with everyone knowing everyone else and helping each other too. What an interesting way to live and grow up in. You got characters both good and not so good, the Klan, greed, fever, love interest, and a nice, happy ending. Such clean, fun and wholesome entertainment. Even if it is not true to life it can be and restores faith in human-kind just by watching. Warm and fuzzies will visit with you guaranteed. Narrator does an excellent job helping us to get the flick and not work too hard. Pay attention to Uncle Famous and his attitude on life. He lives simply, has all he needs, bothers no one likes everybody and is thankful just to be here. What a role model if there ever was one. This movie shows you what life can be like if we just let it. Good sandwich movie and tasty drink with a snack to follow will keep you happy and content to the satisfying end

jfarms1956 Stars In My Crown is a good family movie with older children. It is a movie which reminds us of our American history. It represents a time in America's past.It is both a dark chapter in history and a story of hope. It was one of Joel Mcrea's favorite films. Although the movie does not move at a fast pace, the movie will hold your attention and most of it will make you feel good. The characters in the movie are representative of many Americans, particularly in the South during the 1950s. It was courageous of the producers to produce a film like Stars In My Crown. The climax to me is about how love for one's fellow man, regardless of race, creed or belief, can change the outcome of hateful intentions. You won't easily forget this movie. It will in the end leave you with a hopeful message of love and belief in the goodness of mankind. Bring your popcorn and soda, along with your family, and enjoy the film, best enjoyed in the early evening or during a lazy afternoon.
