One of my all time favorites.
Suman Roberson
It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Kaelan Mccaffrey
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

This movie is like a spiritual journey for me. I went to family video to rent Sinister 2 when it came out and they had a copy of Star Leaf right above it. I had never heard of this movie and knew nothing about it but I stared at the cover and knew I had to watch it. I watched it everyday for a week, took it back to the video store and bought it. For me this isn't a stoner movie or a horror movie. It is about overcoming your inner demons and the struggles that come with that. It's about ultimately doing the right thing and forgiving others as well as yourself. These reasons and a few others is why I call this movie a spiritual journey.

Up and coming Executive Producer Robert Leeshock and Director Richard Cranor hit a home run with this cool twist and turn Sci-Fi movie. In today's political and mental health care environment that not only focuses on our returning veterans but all those who suffer from chronic illnesses in which cannabis can provide significant relief, the story line adds a nice humanistic overture to a very serious problem that many find hard to discuss and often seen as a polarizing topic. From a production and execution standpoint, I found this low budget film to have a similar impact to the Blair Witch project in providing enough suspense and keeping the audience totally engage to see what comes next. Lastly, I was a big fan of the blue dancing Asian Fairy and the Willie Nelson like gate keeper of the Star Leaf Map.. Well done Executive Producer, Director, Cast and Crew!!!

Soldier with combat stress is led by his stoner friends into a forest to partake of a legendary drug, and weird dangers emerge from the undergrowth.Surprising low budget sci-fi hallucinatory type of thing with a message about coming to terms. It doesn't look great, but it's not tediously trippy and the modest effects deliver the menace pretty well. The acting is decent, and while the characters aren't deep there is some nice idiosyncrasy. And the pace is good. The only thing I didn't like was the music - sounded like an '80s TV show.Overall good entertainment and good natured.
