Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

'Spotlight' is wonderful edge on your seat fact based drama. Prime example who to make thrilling procedure films. Strong script, magnificent cast and almost anonymous directing makes it entertaining yet thoughtful film. With it's smoothly fast pace 'Spotlight' is much more entertaining than most modern action thrillers. The cast is probably one of the best ensembles in any movie from recent years - no stand alone shining performance. All actors supported each other with such dedication that it was as powerful as stage play. The director (Tom McCarthy with whom I'm not familiar with) managed to keep focus unlike many other such dramas that have failed because they just can't stay true on tone or pace. There are no fancy cinematography or stylized takes, and in this case it is good, because otherwise it could get distracting.A film done right about journalism done right.

The story of this film needs no explanation. It is a very powerful subject and sometimes it makes me wonder how these subjects are allowed in Hollywood. Corruption is everywhere. With the internet expanding and our view of the news changing, as depicted in the film, we have been discovering such stories more and more. The film's execution of its serious subject was not as powerful as it needed it to be. There was only subtle criticism of the Church and the subject of sexual abuse. There should have been more vivid and effective ways of criticizing the behaviour and the cover-up. I don't know if this is even possible considering the power of religious institutions; it might not have been possible to do much more, so we can't blame without knowing the truth. This is not the only reason why I found the film underperformed. The acting was weak, excluding Mark Ruffalo. And I couldn't find myself getting into the story as much as I would've expected to. The story and the subject along with Ruffalo's performance saved this film to be above average. Still, I would recommend it for the story.

"Spotlight" details the people, methods, and investigative processes surrounding a newspaper's desire to expose, detail, and reveal the molestation of children by Catholic priests in the Boston, MA area in the 1970s. The value of the film demonstrates the procedures and policies that true investigative reporters will follow in order to find facts that can be revealed in order to assure accuracy that cannot be mitigated. It's hard work, classifying, categorizing, detailing, fact-checking, and memorizing real-time and historical information just to write an exposé that overcomes "just-to-sell newspapers" column. A film well worth viewing.

Spotlight is about the Boston Globe's 2001 article, regarding a huge child molestation scandal and its cover up. The spotlight team race to uncover the details about the victims and the scale of this crime. The journalists are invested in the case, because they want justice done to all these people who have been wronged. The film focuses on the investigation and publication. Spotlight is absolutely riveting. Everything is top notch : the acting, script, pace, score and direction. To start with the acting, it's phenomenal. Michael Keaton plays Robbie Robinson, a veteran writer and the leader of the spotlight team. Keaton's acting is great as this guy, who's no hero, but is devoted to getting this article done perfectly. His acting is quite subdued, in the best way possible. Rachel McAdams plays Sacha Pfeiffer, a journalist whose life is affected by this tragedy. McAdams is very good, especially in one sentimental scene with her grandmother. Liev Shreiber is a surprising standout as well. His acting is, similar to Michael Keaton, subdued. Mark Ruffalo plays Mike Rezendes, the most desperate of the team, dedicated to getting this article published. Ruffalo is also quite good. The group have good chemistry and are believable as this exhausted and hard working team who aren't heros, but are looking for proper justice. The film is very well written. It moves at a good pace, never dragging. I was not bored for one scene because of the excellent screenplay. The information is released at a satisfying rate, every piece being impactful. This allows a gripping view of this grueling investigation. The tone of this real life story is grim, but never TOO dark. I appreciated this, because it allowed the film to be grounded in reality, while not being too depressing. The actors' work combined with the screenplay achieve something fantastic. The soundtrack, composed by Howard Shore is extraordinary. He perfectly captures the bleak tone of the movie. The score really enhances the experience, complementing the movie. Shore's sombre piano notes makes us feel the journalists' hard work and the reality of the situation. Tom McCarthy's direction is solid. The shots are well done and the overall look fits the movie well. This is a sad true story and I feel like McCarthy has succeeded in showing it to us. The atmosphere reflects the weight of the subject and the consequences it had on people's lives. This mood definitely affects the replayability. The film also succeeds in being emotional throughout it's procedural story. One scene involving Mark Ruffalo in a church was quite poignant. Overall, I think Spotlight will become a classic. Its realistic tone and melancholy score combined allow for an emotional experience. The film is expertly acted and perfectly paced. It's a great drama that keeps you interested all the way through.
