Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
SoftInloveRox Horrible, fascist and poorly acted
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Sarita Rafferty There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
Prismark10 Psychiatrist Dr Norman Goodman (Dustin Hoffman) once wrote a manual on what to do with an encounter with an unknown life form for the government. When the authorities find something alien, the military bring in Dr Goodman along with biochemist Dr Elizabeth Halperin (Sharon Stone) mathematician Dr Harry Adams (Samuel L Jackson) and astrophysicist Dr Ted Fielding (Liev Schreiber.) They are to investigate a spacecraft that landed in the pacific ocean almost 300 years ago.The scientists go deep below the ocean and are astonished to find that the spacecraft is from Earth but from the future that somehow travelled back to the past. Inside the ship is a sphere and some kind of sentient entity which manifests people's fears that threatens to destroy them. There is some pedigree in this adaptation of a Michael Crichton novel. The film is directed by Oscar winner, Barry Levinson. The problem is that apart from being overlong and dull. The film does not do much with its interesting premise. The film kills of its characters one by one, starting with a black character. We get people having terrifying visions and not realising what is real and what is not, but the film just falls apart and wastes its cast.
Ian (Flash Review)This movie tried to mush together a hodge-podge crew like Alien and an 'adversary' like Hal. The movie starts off very engaging as a crew of scientific specialists are called to investigate a potential alien spaceship that was discovered in the depth of the ocean. No spoilers since it is the title of the movie, they find a mesmerizing large sphere in the spaceship. What will it do? Can they enter it? Will anything come out of it? There is a lot of neat potential to this movie but it just can't hold it together as plot holes and peculiar character decisions take shape. A bummer considering the A-List cast. There is some neat suspense and tension as well as some intriguing happenings but overall it misses the mark slightly. When this came out I sort of wanted to see it so after almost 19 years it finally bubbled up. Haha Overall, it is a fine SciFi movie.
justincrunden Sphere is a brilliant Sci-fi piece that keeps you guessing right to the end. It has a very clever concept and brilliant action and acting. You will not be disappointed. It has a great cast and Dustin Hoffman and Sam Jackson are both terrific and Sharon Stone is for me a very good actress who brings a good energy to the film. If you're a fan Ray Donovan then there's the rare treat of seeing Liev Schrieber deliver a great supporting effort. This film has a lot of suspense and very cleverly leads you in a certain direction only to completely turn things around. I would highly recommend this film if you like Sci-fi with a twist. Samuel L Jackson also gives an impressive performance which is key in keeping the suspense going. Dustin Hoffman is just pure class.
SnoopyStyle Four specialists are brought together to investigate something on the ocean bottom. Dr. Norman Goodman (Dustin Hoffman) is the psychotherapist. Dr. Beth Halperin (Sharone Stone) is the marine biologist. Dr. Harry Adams (Samuel L. Jackson) is the mathematician. Dr. Ted Fielding (Liev Schreiber) is the astrophysicist. Captain Harold C. Barnes (Peter Coyote) tells the team of a possible spacecraft that crash landed 300 years ago. They discover a perfect liquid sphere in a ship possibly build by humans in the future. Along with sailor Fletcher (Queen Latifah) among others, the group is stranded on the bottom of the ocean. It's too slow and too long. The action has no thrills. The horror elements are lackluster. The cast may be superior but their work here is mediocre. The only good scene is Jackson fake out the Alien chocking scene. The rest is a long meandering sci-fi adventure without much adventure. A tighter story could elevate the tension and make this exciting.
