This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Personally, I liked the movie very much and would recommend it. It's really one of the best Croatian movies. It's true though that it's not a comedy in the proper sense of the word. It's more like a romantic comedy. In the end it's not about fighting for the animal rights, it's about the love story between two main characters. Still, I think they make a sweet couple. The movie doesn't contain a lot of "obvious" jokes. The jokes are rather subtle (may i use that word to describe it) and I'm not sure whether the foreigners would be able to understand them. The humor in this movie is more about the mentality of the Croatian hinterland rather than about making obvious jokes. To sum up, although there are a lot of movies that are better than Sonja and the Bull, I think most of the viewers should like this movie. The only catch is that you shouldn't expect a "proper" comedy.

I really loved the fist half hour of the movie. It shows the 'typical' people from Herzegovina that only Croats such as myself can really understand. The rest of the movie, however, falls short by turning it in to a love story of people from different worlds.I would have liked it more had they stretched out the first 30 minutes into a complete movie with the consequences of the bet being the natural end.I've seen a lot of Croatian movies and this is one of the better ones but it could have been more. As a previous reviewer stated, watch without children first to deem whether it is appropriate for yours.

I never was a big fan of Croatian cinematography, all though i'm a Croat, and a rather conservative one!:-) But, this was a pleasant surprise. Refreshing, modern movie, with decent acting from the main actors. Almost impressive, but it does have a few flaws...It's supposed to be a comedy, but I could not find more than a few good jokes, and that was maybe a bit disappointing...but overall; it was obvious to me that the movie was influenced with the modern Hollywood kind-off romantic comedies ( harsh language, drugs, alcohol, sex or in this case just some eroticism-SORRY, KIND OF A SPOILER...) and it did a pretty good job! I can't think of more than a few romantic comedies from the West released lately that can match this movie ( Silver Linings Playbook, Safety Not Guaranteed...), there could be more but maybe I missed it. It lacked a few good old romantic songs, we Croats have a lot of those and that's always a bonus for me when it comes to this kind of movies... but, anyway, i was satisfied and that's the most important thing. I recommend it to anyone for a good Sunday Movie night!

Especially from HRT ...The film has a very good picture quality, but the sound - it's a completely different story, sound spoils the experience of each second of the movie. The story begins interestingly, continues a little bit off-road, but at the middle of the storyline story is lost on a off-road rally race - goes to something that has nothing to do with either Sonja or with the bull, but with inconsistent characters who are trying to complement the duration of the movie. The film offers a couple of interesting characters, such as the butcher, but most of them are poorly characterized. As for the miser humor in the film: it's cheap and inadequate. Watching Sonja and the bull is more like watching a social drama with elements of comedy, than watching a comedy. In fact, humor appears as much as unnecessary nudity. In short, the film offers a one-time "entertainment" for a Sunday afternoon.Note to parents: keep in mind that the film contains EXPLICIT CONTENT, so first watch the movie by yourselves in order to assess how much the movie could be interesting to your children.
