ChanBot i must have seen a different film!!
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
selinakeles I watched this movie 7 times (not even kidding) and this is the only movie that I keep on laughing at the same jokes. Every single time, I laugh! I laugh about 3 times, PER MINUTE! This movie is sooo funny and interesting. I actually can't unerstand why people didn't like it. I guess people have boring/basic sense of humor these days. - btw my whole family lovesssss this movie too. MY MOM, who HATES seeing a movie twice, has seen this movie a lot. I just wish people wouldn't bash this movie. It deserves justice
GdM99 Not a big fan of Amy Schumer and wasnt expecting much after seeing the ratings. Good story though and had a few good laughs along the way.
aarosedi Emily's plans for couple's vacay with her BF Michael hit a snag, they broke up just before the trip. She decided instead to use it as an opportunity to bond with her mother, Linda, and off they went to the off-the-beaten-touristy-spot Ecuador.I haven't seen any of Ms. Schumer's previous work on TV and film so no basis really in comparing how low she stooped in taking on the role of Emily. Emily's scenes though in the fast food restaurant scene where she is being dumped by her boyfriend Michael (Randall Park) and the Ecuadorian bar where she struck up a conversation with a stranger James (Tom Bateman) are the ones that can be considered to be the least unfunny throughout the film. Comedic performance-wise, of the scenes I just mentioned, I thought it was satisfactory. But then, it all goes downhill definitely after that. The tapeworm scene, the rock bottom. Icks. And as for Ms. Hawn playing the over-protective mom, she definitely took a dive on this one, just awful to see a decent actress go this far. But I guess she's very much game if it meant that she can join Schumer in take jabs at some of the things that needed to be poked fun at. This is a Hollywood film that is marketed towards the American audience. And as a non-American who lives in the tropics, I have to say, Hawaii does a pretty good job in serving as a stand-in for the rest of the tropical world. There's no shame in admitting if one can't spot much of a difference, really.Made me chuckle here and there in certain parts of the film, but overall, not really much a good feeling after having watched this. Or perhaps that's because I watched this flick alone instead of the intended being best seen in the multiplexes or at home together with one's friends or family. The movie's nasty streak is the thread by which it hangs on to pass itself off as not totally a wasted effort from the filmmakers, so...My rating: C-minus.
teriarnhold Too bad this couldn't be rated in negative numbers. It was a complete disappointment. Where is the real Goldie Hawn? Bad acting, directing, script, you name it. Except for the plot idea, oh, and the trailer - that was good.
