Fatma Suarez The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Neil Welch A quantity of cocaine is seized in Las Vegas in a gun battle leaving various people dead: we learn that the cocaine was seized by two cops. However, the cocaine turns out to be in the middle of a deal between two crime factions, and they want it back. Factor in an internal affairs investigator looking into dirty cops...I have mixed feelings about this crime thriller. It is full of action and twisty plot corners and wondering where it is going and who is on whose side, who is corrupt, who is working undercover etc., and all this is good, gripping stuff. But there is an element of farce about where the drugs are - it's a bit like pass the parcel. Ditto where the hostage is - has he been rescued? Yes? No? Not quite? And also, this is one of those films where a number of the characters, especially Jamie Foxx's protagonist, suffer constant severe physical trauma, and then get up and chase around or get into another first fight: I just didn't believe it (and how do you pronounce the second "x" in "Foxx"? Or is it just an affectation? So, on one level, this works moderately well as an action thriller. But on another, it is dumb and annoying.

davideo-2 STAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Night *** Friday Morning ** Sunday Night * Monday MorningVincent (Jamie Foxx) and his partner Sean (T.I.) are two Las Vegas cops who have just stolen a load of cash from crime lord Novak (Scott McNairy.) They think everything's gone smoothly, until Vincent's son Thomas (Octavius J. Johnson) is kidnapped by a casino manager cum crime lord, working in association with Novak, who informs him that the money he stole included a stash of drugs that both parties need to recover. Vincent and his son then find themselves plunged into a deadly battle of wits, in which they are pursued by a relentless FBI operative, Bryant (Michelle Monaghan) with a personal beef to settle. The dazzling, seductive neon lights of Las Vegas are used as a backdrop in this thriller from director Baran bo Odar, in which the gambling capital's seedy underbelly is brought to life. While this is certainly a premise with lots of potential, it would have been better brought to life in a much less pedestrian, workmanlike film, that serves no real purpose other than to pass the time and is put together in the most connect the dots manner imaginable. While the plot is full of twists and turns, none of them keep you on the edge of your seat.As a gritty, no nonsense action film, it's suitably drained and the script has a notable sense of humour bypass. It's just a predictable, seen it all before tale, devoid of any suspense or originality. Towards the end, it even transcends into ridiculousness, with some pretty big suspension of disbelief required. It's not badly made enough to be called terrible, but it's not interesting or exciting enough to rise to any great heights, or be remembered long after you've seen it.This is what you might call a 'red eye' film, one to catch on a late night flight when you're about to nod off. Not so much Sleepless, more like Restless. **
GUENOT PHILIPPE That's not the worst remake ever I have seen in my movie life. That's not exactly a copycat of NUIT BLANCHE, the French film released six years ago, starring Tomer Sisley. Some lines are the same but not every, some have been added. Especially the very last seconds of the movie that look like a horror film ending, suggesting something else...I did not expect this in a crime movie, or a thriller. As in the French film, I like the Internal Affairs rotten cop scheme, and the lead character cop trying to nail the IA heat...This was the same in the 2011 film. Besides, Jamie Fox is stabbed on the right side when his son is abducted and later in the film, when he fights in the casino kitchen he seems to have knife wound on the left side. And the drug shipment doesn't look like cocaine to me, but "brown sugar"instead. Not a bad movie, saved by the last seconds.
