Singapore Sling Audience Reviews

ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Humaira Grant It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
nasteen8 How to properly review a film like this is something that has bewildered many people on here. Could you simply explain the story (as you believe it to be) or do you express your feelings after having seen it? Perhaps you must see this movie 50 times before you can properly describe it. Maybe 100? I'm not sure I can still perform this task after seeing this film so many times. Every time I watch it, new questions come up, new meanings get revealed, new disturbed beauty shines through. This film is by far and above one of the most prized cinematic gems I have in my collection and I give it all the attention it deserves.Nikos Nikolaidis certainly shows amazing talent by creating a film such as this with so little. One house, three actors and not heavy on the dialogue, this film is about as powerful as they come. But here's the catch, it's still a mystery! Who killed Laura? Who is Laura? Who is Singapore Sling? Where did he come from? What happened to father? Was the daughter even really the daughter????? I think the story runs deep, and people seem to just see what's up on the screen and take it at face value. Notice the lack of names? Notice the use of the Greek language by only Singapore Sling? Why does the daughter not understand French if her mother speaks it regularly? Perhaps you saw this movie and loved it, and perhaps you have forgotten it in the depths of your memory. Perhaps you should seek it out and watch it a few more times.I could go on for days about the subtle nuances and absolutely amazing musical score (that still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it). I could go on about how this film has actually affected (in a good way) my love life (not in the way you think, sickos). I could go on forever about what I think this story portrays, but perhaps it is the mystery that makes this film so endearing. As sick as it is, and as hard as some parts are to watch, it is something that will sit with you for a long time. So, don't just look at the disturbed imagery as it is, look at the characters and listen to the dialogue. Perhaps this is a tale that is beyond a simple mystery and maybe it's a sick joke on all of us. Perhaps it's just Nikos Nikolaidis blowing his proverbial genius load on to all of us. Any way you look at it, it's something that was almost lost to the complete underground but has made a small comeback."Forget her, forget her Singapore Sling"
mpfossick As this is my first review for IMDb, I decided to choose something obscure and potentially difficult. Art-house stylistics with Euro-centric sensibilities is what is evident in Singapore Sling. A film-noirish tendency envelopes this production in a attempt to deviate away from the twisted intents of the main characters. Yes it is filmed entirely in black and white, but the aforementioned film noir elements derive not just from this but also through the foreboding qualities of the narrative, the sensual erotica of the deviant femme-fatales that are thrust before us like they were doyens of Marquis De Sade scriptures and the pseudo-psychological revenge/redemption plot that lies within. Make no mistake this is not easy watching, convention is not permitted. It is exceedingly macabre, yet also allowing sexual pleasure to derive from many levels of disgust. The processes of consuming food in this film will indeed disgust you. If that doesn't then the "disgust" will capture you in many other ways. If you are a fan of Transformers or Shreck then stay away, but if you like unique visual experiences then please indulge.
Scarecrow-88 A private investigator, obsessed with a woman named Laura he was tracking, leads to the palatial estate and grounds of a very warped mother-daughter team of wackos who like to play out "make-believe" scenarios and murder hired chauffeurs. The film looks like a film noir, gorgeous B&W photography and plays like a depraved version of Otto Preminger's LAURA. PI falls in love with an image which gets him into a heap of trouble. Arriving at their door with a gun-shot wound, falling unconscious, he awakens finding himself bound to a bed, a victim of the crazies, at their mercy and becoming, for a while, a victim of vile torture. For instance, while the daughter pumps him full of juice, the mother is on top, *riding* him because, it seems, that the electric charge rises his member. She subsequently urinates on his face after reaching orgasmic delight. Anyway, the daughter takes her own ride, while "mommy" is asleep. She later self-induces vomit all over his face and the camera rarely moves showing the poor guy getting the liquid food-goo all over his face. It's really gross stuff. The film, though, is so well made, the acting by the women(..they're absolutely bonkers, but their unpredictable nature is so compelling and repulsive)superb and wacky, and there's plenty of S&M for those who enjoy that sort of thing.I'd say this is meant for a particular crowd. I found the film equally parts amusing, stunning, sick, and icky. The film has the daughter and mother often talking to the camera which might easily annoy those who hate this cinematic technique, although these two are so positively nuts and say some the most darnedest things, I couldn't look away. They're very beautiful, especially the mother who has ways with using her eyes to express her sheer lunacy(..while the daughter twitches, talks off to herself, and makes funny expressions with her hands), so the acts they commit can become startling. There's actual *fruit masturbation*(..I kid you not), vaginal violence with a hunting knife proportioned in a place where the male member is normally located, and other forms of sexual unpleasantness(..or pleasantness if you are into the sort of things which take place). The filmmakers are so good at creating the noir look that they could've easily made films in the 40's or art films in the 60's. But, this film ups the ante with the stuff I mentioned, and a dinner table scene(s)where the women stuff their mouths with food, shortly after barfing it back out on their plates!
The_Void Well...it doesn't get much more bizarre than this! To sum it up simply, Singapore Sling is a work of extreme cinema; featuring all manner of things from sadomasochism to incest...but it's shot in a style reminiscent of the classic film noirs from the golden age of cinema. The two styles offset each other constantly, and this gives the film an extremely surreal atmosphere as well as a completely unique style that ensures Singapore Sling is nothing like any other film ever made. The film was made in Greece, which makes it almost unique in its own right as Greece isn't a country famous for film-making. The plot focuses on a detective who is looking for a girl named Laura. One night, he stumbles upon two women burying a body and we are introduced to what has to be one of the most "offbeat" mother and daughters in cinema. We then follow the daughter as she details the things her and her mother get up to, before the weary detective; who is given the name 'Singapore Sling', stumbles into the pair's home and ends up becoming 'involved' in more insane games. The film is shot in beautiful black and white, and director Nikos Nikolaidis does an excellent job of making the film as picturesque as possible. In fact, the film is so damned pretty that even morbidly sick practises such as a mother having lesbian sex with her daughter don't seem quite so grotesque when seen in this film. The film only features three performers, but it never gets boring even though the film runs for over 110 minutes. The director somehow manages to keep things interesting despite the fact that the film often retreads similar ground. Much of the credit for the film must go to Michele Valley and Meredyth Herold, who both provide brilliant performances as the mother and daughter central duo. Panos Thanassoulis is good also as the title character, but he remains silent for most of the film and never gets a change to fully impress. The film plays out well throughout, and it all boils down to a suitably sick finale which gives credence to both its pornographic and film noir styles. Overall, Singapore Sling is a fabulous piece of celluloid which needs to be experienced by everyone who considers themselves a fan of cinema!
