The first half of this film was adorable. The chemistry between the lead actors was simple and believable. The characters were endearing and there was an innocence in the film, as is usually seen in romances based in small towns. In the beginning, the audience gets to see the setting of a slow paced love story that starts from an arranged marriage setup. As the lead pair start to develop feelings for each other, effectively shown using some beautiful songs, the viewer starts to warm up to the film. I automatically started cheering for them to end up together and soon. Alas, due to a misunderstanding, on the night of the wedding itself, the relationship falls apart. The slow pace set up in the first half of the movie gives rise to an aggressive build-up in the second half. This time, there's revenge and there's a lot of anger. This led to some interesting twists and turns in the film that also took me by surprise and I do not wish to spoil it. The ending was a little long and at one point of time, it felt like it was borderline melodramatic, but eventually the film redeems itself by packing a punch at the last moment. I thoroughly enjoyed the supporting ensemble, especially in the end, where they did an amazing job to pull the film together again. The heroine's sister was fantastic in this film. She was hilarious and when she needed to come through for her sister, she put her foot down, ready to fight any one. That's what it means to be family. For me, the lead pair makes this movie and I don't think a lot of stars today could pull off something like this so easily and so very effortlessly. Rajkummar Rao, as usual, is spectacular here, playing the lover boy and the man out for revenge with equal elan. I wonder what this guy cannot do! We all know about his acting skills but he dances so effortlessly as well! This guy is an asset to the Bollywood film industry and for me, he is one of the brightest shining stars in the industry today. What surprised me the most was Kriti Kharbanda. I haven't seen any of her other films but she was wonderful here. She played her role almost perfectly. When she needed to be the beautiful, blushing bride-to-be and also when she was playing a public officer under trial, she pulled it off and so well! She really has the looks, the talent and an incredible innocence to her , and I am looking forward to see her taking up more roles in Bollywood. She seems to have a bright future ahead of her. Rajkummar and Kriti did a fantastic job at portraying their respective roles and their chemistry was also so beautifully portrayed. Their relationship was one of the best things about the movie, both the ups and the downs of it.Some amazing tracks in this film, with Jogi and Main Hoon Saath Tere, taking the cake on the romance track front. Pallo Latke was a fun, peppy dance track that I have heard at almost every party I have been to, after this film released. A well balanced album. All in all, the first half was sweet and romantic and the second half was heavy on revenge. But in the end, things all come full circle and love wins again. A heart-touching story with a beautiful ensemble of characters. Definitely will watch again.
