Mathilde the Guild Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

Jakoba True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.

Suman Shakya As mentioned in the credits, the film is inspired from "The Godfather" and is Indianized in the setting of a gangster family. Well, it's not really the gangster family, but the head of the family is above the police or government and rules the whole Mumbai. The focus here isn't very sharp whether the story is on patronizing a mafia family or the conspiracies between different gangs. The work or the income of the family also appears unclear. The whole film runs in a tension, and is very hard to keep on watching it. Despite this, the film is directed very well; and has few good performances. Amitabh Bachchan, in the tile role, performs and gives a dynamic screen presence with minimal dialogues. Abhishek Bachchan too appears calm and suites as a devoted son of a gang leader. All in all both have relived the powerful performances given by Marlon Brando or Al Pacino in "The Godfather." As a whole, the film sets a different genre, plays with a conviction, and is greatly performed. Due to lacking entertainment values and its slow pace, the film unfortunately didn't get much absorbed by the viewers.Rating: 2 stars out of 4

Huzefa Akhter If you mention the Bollywood standards of acting and the art of story telling, there is no doubt with the matter of fact that Sarkar turned out to be of much much higher standards then one would normally expect.Acting was marvelous no wonder Mr. Amitab Bachchan is one of the best the industry has ever produced. Apart from that Abhishek was also exceptionally eye catching. The music was also good. Overall it was a great movie to watch.There are some heavy scenes in the movie, I like the one when Sarkar returns from the hospital and waves his hand out of his car before he himself steps out.However despite of all facts and figures the basic truth is its a copied movie. It does have it own flavor but the basic ingredients are copied."Enhancing an idea is much much simpler than actually coming up with one." If it was something directly out of the Director's brain I would have rated it 9, may be better.

nomanali77 Let's imagine for a second that Yash Chopra's Deewaar (1975) didn't end the way it did. Vijay Verma (Amitabh Bachchan) did not die, Anita (Parveen Babi) did, the two brothers split up for good, and the mother went with Ravi (Shashi Kapoor). Vijay continued his ruling over Mumbai, and grew more and more powerful. Eventually he married Pushpa (Supriya Pathak). Any contact with his brother and mother was lost, and they probably died later. Vijay went into hiding, changed his name to Subhash Nagre, had two sons with Pushpa, Vishnu and Shankar, came out of self-exile and continued to rule Mumbai. However, he is a good man at heart. His elder son goes into film production, while the younger son is in the US, studying. After completing his education, the younger son, Shankar (AB Junior) returns to Mumbai.This is where Sarkar starts.Comparisons aplenty to Godfather, but Sarkar stands on its own. I won't go into the story, because it is March 2006 and almost everyone who is interested must have watched the film already. The plot itself is very simple, but it is the on-screen performances as well as the screenplay and direction that make this film a winner.Memorable Scenes:1. Rasheed meeting Sarkar at the latter's home. Do you remember the disgust with which Subhash Nagre looks at Rasheed? He maintains it throughout.2. Hospital scene where Subhash Nagre is told that his son has joined his rivals.3. Shankar telling his family that he has killed his brother. "Maine bhaiyya ko maar diya." That is the ONLY dialog in that scene! 4. Shankar goes to Silver Mani for help and Rasheed is there already.5. Shankar kills Rasheed. Even underwater, Raheed didn't lose his composure.I think that's all I can remember right now.I don't think Sarkar beats Satya or Company, but it definitely is up there amongst RGV's best.

santoshtiwarih3g This movie is a very difficult to review movie. Lets start by going through the good part. Amitabh Bachhan as always is brilliant. There are so many pictures amitabh is doing in the current times and still he makes me wonder by doing something in one of these movies which again reminds how good he is . There could not have been any body else in Indian film industry who could have played this role with this conviction as amitabh has done. Same goes for other actors in the movie as well , Abhishake and Kay kay have both come out so good that if you have not seen original , you would be surprised by the sheer rawness and seriousness of the movie.But thats where the crux is , if you have seen the original than even if you don't want to feel like that you will feel to put this movie on the second grade. Abhishake is excellent but Al pachino is much better than that. The conflict of a person caught between love of his father and a clean life demanded by his would be wife is depicted in such a way by AL pachino that it would be nearly possible for anybody to come closer to that.over all it is an excellent movie but the way it is , comparisons to original is inevitable and when it is done original proves the point that it is original.
