Tom's day at the beach doesn't start out well. First he gets his swimsuit caught in the door of the beach house, and doesn't realize it until his intended dive in the ocean sends him snapping back and crashing through the door. He runs out and tries again. This time he is so determined to jump in the water that when he does so, he doesn't notice the tide is out and that he is swimming in the sand, which is filled with broken bottles, tin cans and other debris. Later, he tries to win over a beautiful girl on the beach, but, being the boor he is, he annoys her by drinking her soda pop, eating her hot dog and munching loudly as he lays his head in her lap. Suddenly, a tomato flies through the air and lands on his head. So does a banana peel. Tom looks for the culprit and finds him in the girl's picnic basket. Jerry is inside, eating what he wants and tossing out the rest...

Salt Water Tabby Audience Reviews

Inadvands Boring, over-political, tech fuzed mess
Onlinewsma Absolutely Brilliant!
Kailansorac Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
mrapple-06690 This is a fairly decent Tom and Jerry cartoon. the setting is good and is creative with the female, crab, bathing suits, gags etc. Tom eating a clam and consuming sand make for a good laugh, as well as tom's attempts at impressing the girl. The ending with the beach toy and tom's flying trip was a great way to exit the cartoon. The only negative I have however is that I feel the first chase scene, where the crab attacks tom and then he gets himself stuck in a brolly, is completely filler and unnecessary. when jerry was seen tossing out food it should've cut straight to tom slamming the bottle cap over his head. Though with the first chase we did see the crab in action and poor tom all closed up inside the parasol. Fairly decent cartoon, not too bad and not too great either. 6/10
TheLittleSongbird I adore Tom and Jerry, and I enjoyed this cartoon. The only quibble I have is that the pacing is a little too fast, but it is still hugely enjoyable. The animation is absolutely, very colourful and bright, and the music is rousing. The sight gags are plentiful and all of them work, while the story while perhaps routine at first glance is effective and has a good structure. Tom and Jerry still have their likability, I am probably biased as I love this duo too much and hate criticising them.Overall, just a rock solid Tom and Jerry cartoon, with a lot going for it. It mayn't be their best, but boy isn't it entertaining, the ending especially brought a smile to my face. 9/10 Bethany Cox
ccthemovieman-1 Tom is out for a fun day at the beach, but everything turns out to be a disaster, right from the start when his bathing suit gets stuck in the door! Then he dives into the ocean, but the tide goes out and he hits nothing but sand and a bunch of tin cans and other garbage. One thing after another goes wrong, but Tom, to his credit, remains upbeat. Then he discovers Jerry in the picnic basket eating all the food. Jerry then takes big bites out of poor Tom, to gets further bitten by a crab, on and on and on. Tom - and the crab - gets a few licks in on Jerry, too, but only a few. This is non-stop action, almost wearing you out in just seven minutes. The frenetic pace is almost too much.
MartinHafer Wow, I love this short. This is about the best Tom and Jerry cartoon you can find, as it is absolutely tops in both quality of animation and laughs. In fact, I think that Tom and Jerry cartoons of the 40s are highly underrated and in many cases are superior to those of Warner Brothers--especially in regard to the quality of the animation.Tom is at the beach trying to woo a cute lady cat. And, to help woo her, he brings along Jerry as his slave. Jerry is throttled again and again by Tom until finally Jerry escapes and decides to get revenge. And in this case revenge includes shoving an angry crab on Tom's tail, nearly drowning Tom and finally making the moves on Tom's girl. The film is nearly non-stop action and fun.
