I expected this movie to start where it ended: How do the Arab Muslim family and the Arab Muslim community react on intermarriage of a Muslim girl to a Christian/Atheist father. Such marriages are forbidden in Islam, because the children of such marriages are not considered Muslims.In lands governed by Islamists, both the boy and the girl would risk to be killed. If lucky, they could get lashes, or be thrown to jail. These sad stories are neither rare, nor new, and hardly make into news.The real question is the TRUE reaction of Canadian Arab community: will they ostracize the brother, as he is the only one who really wants to be a part of it? Does brother want to ignore the native community for the sake of joining the wide Canadian society? Or, Stephen just converted to Islam under the guidance of the "Islam for Dummies" and that solved the puzzle? The movie did not provide answers for any of these questions.

A SWEET touching story of cultures clashing but love overcoming the colliding haha.Sure this film isn't really Oscar worthy but it IS a great film to share with someone you love. The story is sweet and I found myself rooting for Sabah in her quest for happiness in her love life. I also kept yelling at her to PLUCK THOSE EYEBROWS!! HAHA. She is lovely woman, but the actress needed to pluck her brows badly. I guess it was for the role, because I've seen other photos of her with nice shaped brows.All in all...the film was endearing and I recommend it to watch!

"Sabah" is a wonder, as not only was it a very enjoyable film but according to IMDb it was filmed in only 20 days! For young filmmakers, it's a great lesson on how to film a movie economically and quickly--and it's a nice film for those romantics out there.Sabah is a 40 year-old Muslim woman. Her family is originally from Syria but they've lived in the Toronto area for many years. But, despite their living in a western culture, Sabah's family is holding firm to their old world customs. Sabah is not happy but she's resigned herself to this existence. However, one day, on a lark, she decides to go swimming--something adult women are not normally allowed to do (unless the pool is 100% segregated--women only). However, this tiny act of defiance turns out to eventually unleash Sabah's repressed feelings. So, when she meets a nice non-believer there and finds she likes him, she is, in essence playing with fire--as her family is bound to be furious. The two begin dating--but Sabah is sure to hide this from everyone--and her boyfriend is, not surprisingly, pretty miserable with this arrangement. What happens next? See this very nice film for yourself and see for yourself! While the film is not without its flaws (the resolution comes about way too simply and perfectly), it's nice viewing--and very nice for couples who want to watch a so-called 'chick flick'. Plus, it addresses some interesting cultural difficulties in the process. Well worth watching.

I don't LOVE many movies, but this one I DO LOVE! The story offers us an opportunity to get in touch with the very human part of who we are. Love is one of those few languages we all speak around the globe and there could never be boundaries to confine it, even the boundaries set by the training of a traditional religious family.I am an Arab who grew up in a traditional Muslim family in Damascus, Syria and have a somewhat similar story to that of Sabah, as I married a non-Arab, white with blue eyes, American man. I find stories like this refreshing as they go against every stereotype that boxed-minded people have about Arabs and Muslims. It is a story that does not fit into any mold, and forces the viewer to review their position and inner attitudes about another religion or culture.This movie is powerful in a sense that it stands in the face of all western propaganda regarding Arabs, and paints Arabs for who they really are: human beings who live in every day life, fall in love, have joys and sorrows, and in their hearts are very generous and compassionate people.
