TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

peter bird Well, I pass the trophy over from Jaws III to this movie. It really is so bad. Some movies can be so bad they are good. Not this movie...it is a stinker. The acting...what acting? The special effects...what special effects? The dinosaurs...well, they were kinda cool. But what purpose did they serve? Best thing about this movie? That's easy; the love scene. Our hero and heroine are fleeing from some hairy armed man in a diving helmet (supposedly an alien) and incredibly they find time for a bit of flirting, foreplay and a massive kissing session in the hay while this killer robot is limping around in the desert looking totally lost (probably trying to find a way to sneak off the set. In a word, dreadful.

robert blau I LOVE this movie. I own the DVD and never tire of watching it. Also, I love the opportunity to show it to friends. When I first saw it on TV when I was young, I DIDN'T like it, largely due to the fact that things don't go too well for the earth side (the first time I had ever seen that happen). But when I saw it again in my 20's, I was struck by the fear of dehumanization in a technological age (a clear motif besides and beyond the usual cold war/nuclear war paranoia). Also, as I've continued to watch it, I've noticed that the actors and acting are actually quite decent and sincere. (The adults, in fact, have pretty good resumes -- and I'm a fan of George Nader from "Man and the Challenge".) I found the story to be an involving one, with it's share of surprises. And one cannot fail to be affected by the indomitable determination of the survivors to persevere in the face of overwhelming odds (before the precipitous turn where everything goes down the toilet for BOTH sides). And last but not least, there's Ro-Man going through an identity crisis worthy of Hamlet! ("I must! But I cannot!! How do you calculate that!") Plus the exquisitely desolate set and the hokey props and special effects. 10/10. BEYOND criticism.

Uriah43 The human population is on the brink of annihilation due to an alien species of robots known as the "Ro-man". As a matter of fact they are so powerful that it takes only one to exterminate all but a handful of people. But that small group that remains consists of a scientist who has given his family and a couple of other fortunate folks a brand new antibiotic which keeps them temporarily safe from the robot's destructive rays and keeps them invisible from his electronic search beams. Their only hope is to somehow find his weakness before he finds them. Now rather than reveal any more of this movie and risk spoiling it for those who haven't seen it I will just say that this is a campy, low-budget, grade-Z film from the 50's which might appeal to those who enjoy pictures of this type. But quite frankly, even though I loved movies from this period when I was a kid, I found the corny dialogue, the awful costume for the robot and the all-too-basic special effects a bit too lacking for me to rate this any higher than I have. Definitely below average.

g-young77 "Robot Monster" is a wonderful film about a gorilla in a diving helmet who loves bubbles and beautiful women. Oh, and the gorilla is also a ROBOT MONSTER! FROM SPACE! He's killed all but 5 people on planet Earth and is trying to finish the job! And... Well really that's about it. Except that one of the 5 is a beautiful woman and the monster wants to keep her alive for his own purposes, much to the chagrin of his superiors (and her boyfriend who has a severe aversion to wearing shirts).Like most bad movies, a lot of stuff happens that doesn't make any sense and leaves the viewer wondering what they missed; but this gem actually addresses its incongruity in its final plot twist - which is possibly the biggest let-down of the film. While a little drawn-out, "Robot Monster" is a classic example of the beyond-B sci-fi movie genre and often glorious in its awfulness.
