Highly Overrated But Still Good

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

The Lost Colony was a surprisingly good movie. I expected a run-of-the-mill gory horror-fest. The plot was crisp and clean. The story did not bog down but did not feel rushed. Although the story states it is based on real events; the only historical facts are the disappearance of the colony and the names of the settlers. The story gives a nice twist to the mystery, though. The use of actual locations for most of the film added a better sense of reality than the always dark studio lot production of the many movies. The special effects were basic but not cheesy. Anyone who likes traditional horror should enjoy this film. If you are looking for monsters stalking teens and gore you may be disappointed. This is by no means a fantastic movie but it is a nice little gem.
