Such a frustrating disappointment

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Making a Stand against Injustice, Cruelty, and Senseless Death Dealing, is a Common Theme in Literature and Movies. Here, a Senior Citizen is more than Forgiving. His Initial Response is nothing more than Expecting some Remorse, Reflection, and Apology for, Perhaps, a Moment of Youthful Indiscretion, that Resulted in Taking the Life of a Man's Best Friend.Of course, that is not to be, as He Discovers that none of that is Inherent in these Ruffians Considering Their DNA. The Parents Accept even Less Responsibility (therein lies the root of the problem), and Things Spiral into a Universe of Violence and Comes Upmanship. This is a Strong, Emotional, and Engaging Film that is well Acted, Brian Cox Receiving Raves Everywhere, and the Pacing is Steady, leading to the Inevitable, but Twisty Conclusion. Along the way there is a Back Story Monologue Involving a Bizarre Family Tragedy that, if You Think about it, is Totally Unnecessary.A somewhat Searing Story, this Indie Delivers the Goods with an Up and Down, Back and Forth Style that Erupts and Settles, Erupts and Settles that makes for some Disturbing Tension and is more than Worthy of its Troubled Production and its Low-Budget.

A reclusive man (Brian Cox) sets out for justice and redemption when three troublesome teens (Noel Fisher, Kyle Gallner, Shiloh Fernandez) kill his dog for no good reason.First of all, why was Lucky McKee replaced? And Angela Bettis replaced, too? This seems terribly unfortunate and probably cost the film some fans and attention it might have otherwise had. (With all due respect to the new director, who did a phenomenal job.) At least us horror buffs have Ashley Laurence and Robert Englund to work with. (Not to mention veteran actors Tom Sizemore and Richard Riehle.) The whole story is great and spins out of control. It has the sensibility of "Mystic River" and the revenge of "Falling Down"... the best of both worlds.

I thought I was going to see another film of the same title. To tell you the truth I wish I had. The acting was unconvincing and awkward at times. Where as Gran Torino was fresh and riveting, I found this film boring and cumbersome.I don't gamble much but I was 100% sure the bad kid's father would live and at least one of his sons would die, at least the son who expressed he had a conscience for sure would die. I would have liked it better if the mom had gotten shot as she tried to diffuse the situation. Anything but the overly predictable outcome.I understand they had some problems in production hiring/ firing and it shows. The scene where the dog (imaginary or real who cares)comes to him when he was dying was pathetic. This was more of a Lifetime project with a little more violence and cursing. I can see why it didn't do so well and cannot (or don't want to) see how this film got a 7/10 rating. I'm not a hater and I feel the 4 I gave it was generous and only because I love dogs as well.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the formulaic ending this has, with the bad guys getting shot, just like every other revenge or 'out for justice' movie. Completely destroyed any credibility the movie had up until that point.People might say that its a case of the innocent parties (Harold) suffering as a result being somehow original, but once again, very predictable, just like the torching of the store right after the scene where Av drives by it.It's a shame too, because the movie was brilliant in setting up the characters, and built the tension beautifully.I don't believe the problem lies with the movie, but by the novel, assuming it's ending is similar. After seeing this and The Girl Next Door, it seems to me that Jack Ketchum's writing is somehow put on a pedestal by so many people, I'm definitely missing something here. I didn't realise it was based on his novel until the opening credits, should've known it would fall apart again.Just another 'out for justice' movie with some excellent performances.
