A lot more amusing than I thought it would be.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.

Medical student Herbert West has just started studying at Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts having previously studied in Switzerland. He believes that he has developed a serum that can re-animate the dead! He lodges in the basement flat of fellow student Dan Cain and soon Cain and his girlfriend Megan, the Dean's daughter, are caught up in West's experiments. First he just re-animates a cat but soon he and Cain are re-animating a human being. It doesn't go well and the patient gets violent and the Dean is killed. They re-animate him and he is taken into the care of senior doctor, and lecturer, Dr Carl Hill. Hill figures out what has happened but rather than inform the authorities he decides to steal West's work... things then get really gory! This classic of the horror genre is somewhat over looked compared to other films of the era which is a pity... although I suspect most fans of the genre will have seen it. There are plenty of gory moments and quite a few laughs. The special effects are impressive; especially this involving a character who is reanimated after being decapitated and continues to function with head and body separate. The story itself might be a bit silly but that doesn't matter as it moves at a good pace so the viewer doesn't dwell on such details. The cast, particularly Jeffrey Combs who plays West, does a fine job making their characters believable even in the more extreme situations. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of the genre; especially those who like a few laughs with their gore.

Most under rated horror comedy of the '80s if not of all time. It's violent and bloody but also very comical. Jt knows what it is and doesn't hide it. Based very loosely on the works of H.P .Lovecraft. Stuart Gordon cemented himself as a talented director with this little nugget.

No real expectations with this movie, my initial thought was some weird comedy horror. While some things look silly and there is certainly humour in it, overall I do think the movie is serious. They actually do make a very good effort to present a good story and interesting characters. It is a simple Frankenstein like story, small cast of characters which relationships among each other are worked out pretty well. Especially our 2 scientists and the lovely Megan were likable, people I liked to root for. Even Megan's father wasn't that bad after all. It's not overly gory, I would say it's the right dose of it. It never gets too much if it would go the Evil Dead way it would have lost its effect on me. It even has moments that are truly heartbreaking and touching. I don't think without this movie we would have had movies like Braindead!

At University of Zurich, Herbert West brings his dead professor Hans Gruber back to life with disturbing side effects. He goes to Miskatonic Medical School in Arkham, Massachusetts to further his studies. He immediately challenges the traditional views of Dr. Carl Hill. Fellow medical student Dan Cain rents a room to the weird West. Dan is going out with the Dean's daughter Megan. Hill has it in for West and Cain by association. Using his evil powers of persuasion, Hill gets the Dean to expel both West and Cain. West converts the basement into a mad science laboratory. This is a campy B-movie. David Gale's performance is the proof of it. It is fun campy overacting. Jeffrey Combs is great at being creepy. The movie is grotesque fun. It moves well. It's not a scary horror but rather a campy one. It's weirdly compelling. Bruce Abbott is the main drawback. His amateurish acting isn't worthy of the lead. In the end, the movie makes you chuckle a little and pulls you into the story.
