This movie is shown to happen at WWII. It is basically a love triangle of two men falling in love for the same woman. The story line was a disaster they could have shown a normal love triangle but no they had to take it back to World War 2. The action sequences were really bad did not feel like a war. From beginning to end this movie was boring and senseless. Now let's talk about the songs in this movie all a complete disaster not one of them was catchy. The romance shown in this movie was all happening so fast it's just like some random scenes were been put into this movie to fill the movie eventually. Kangana, Shahid and Saif did their part well but they could not save this movie cause of the story line and how is "bloody hell" a catch phrase. No I would not recommend this movie foe anyone. My Rating 0/10

Wish characters could write their own ends. Wish the actors playing them could rescue them from this helplessness. A fiery little 'banjaaran' is bought off a street performance by a visionary businessman. He then tames this 'wildness' into a feisty and fashionable Miss Julia. But for obvious reasons, he is unable to tame her heart, which is still lost in the wilderness it had come from. Rangoon the movie, promises from the very beginning, to be made to appreciate Kangana, the 'queen'. It is she, in a welcome change, who gets a royal 'introduction' into the story and she accepts it with aplomb. Because here is a performance which overshadows everything, the other performances, the confusing storyline, the gigantic sets, the excellent cinematography and of course, the soulful music. Because, when Miss Julia enters, you look at only her and when she exits, you wait, only for her. Cheers to both the male leads, a painfully restrained Shahid Kapoor and an equally, if not more controlled Saif Ali Khan, who gracefully accept the reign of the 'queen' over the entire film. The brilliant actors that they are, they have shown bravery in accepting itself, the roles of characters who are nothing but providers of plot points to a scattered story to which the heroine acts and reacts. So it is a welcome change indeed to see the heroine ride into the den of enemies and save her prince charming, the heroine to make the first move in her own love story and the heroine again to playfully defeat an exceptional soldier in swording. If only the climax too could keep the queen's flag flying high. Good songs, poetic visuals and excellent dialogues. We only wish the script had focused on one story in completion instead of getting scattered into so many snippets of different ideologies. Rangoon should be watched, for all these positives and of course, for the queen on screen, Kangana Ranaut.

Vishal Bharadwaj has come up with an excellent story and and a very strong script writing along with Mathew Robbins and Sabrina Dhawan. Set in the 1940's background where the Indians were subjected to the ideologies of freedom struggle advocated by Gandhiji and Netaji, the story takes off with the main protagonist Julia(Kangana Ranaut) dancing to the tunes of her mentor in the film industry Rusi or Rustom Billimoria(Saif Ali Khan). The story takes a twist when Julia requires to stage-perform herself to the soldiers on the Indo-Burma border where she gets to meet Nawab Mallik(Shahid Kapoor) who introduces her to herself and the true meaning of love. How Julia fights within herself to find who the true love of her life would be among Rusi and Nawab is what to be explored on the big screen. What I think Vishal Bharadwaj does best is he starts scripting his stories with people already in his mind. He repeated his best actors Saif Ali Khan from 'Omkara' and Shahid Kapoor from 'Haider'. Kangana Ranaut completes the ensemble of very strong and superb cast of this film. All the three leads are great when it comes to emoting those intense dialogues and the comic repartee's here and there. All Vishal's films in someway or the other have glimpses of Shakespeare's way of story telling. Each scene in his movies seem to emerge out of a beautiful painting on a canvas.Everything about this movie story, screenplay, production values, casting, and especially cinematography which actually takes you in to the period in which the story is set. And how can someone forget the Music and the Background score of the movie which needs a special mention. Off all the songs the two melodies from Arijit Singh especially 'Yeh Ishq Hai' takes you in to a different world altogether. All other songs are visual treat to watch and gives you a feel of ballet performances with huge colorful sets and backgrounds. The movie is good in all departments and full marks to the entire cast and crew of Rangoon.
