This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

It's an amazing romantic comedy film with a fine music, with an interesting storyline, with a great performance by actors. Some words about the plot. Funny guy Munna (Aamir Khan) lives next door to the Mili's (Urmila Matondkar) family. Munna spends a lot of time with Mili. Mili is discussing with Munna all her joys and problems.
Munna is an orphan He earns his livelihood selling movie tickets in the black market. Mili finds occupation as a movie extra and she has ambitions of becoming an actress. Once good luck smiled at her and she gets the heroine's role in new movie. She starts spending a lot of time with a movie star Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff) during the filming. Raj and Munna both fall in love for Mili, but Mili is too busy making the movie to notice any of this...For whom this film? This movie is for all who love good romantic comedies, nice music, Indian films and of course for all who love Aamir Khan.

A street-toughened orphan by the name of Munna (Aamir Khan) is befriended by some kind folks, whose effervescent daughter Mili (Urmila Matondkar) soon grows to be his best buddy. Both gravitate toward the Mumbai movie industry. While Mili finds occupation as a movie extra, Munna earns his livelihood selling movie tickets in the black market.Mili has ambitions of becoming an actress. Fortune glances her way, when she dances her way into a movie star's attentions. This actor, Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff), arranges for her to be auditioned for the heroine's role in his upcoming movie called Rangeela. Mili's shortcomings amount to distractions, but thanks in no small way to Munna and Raj, she lands the role.

It's a shame no-one has yet written about this movie. So, I am giving it a shot. Needless to say, the songs in the movie are great, and the movie was a big part of what I think was Urmila's short-lived comeback. Jackie Shroff is adequate is his role as the unhappy-in-real-life mega star. Anyone without a bias would easily agree the star of the show, in more ways than one, is Aamir Khan. This comment comes in a significant few years after the actual movie, but Aamir Khan has proved himself (AGAIN!) that he is, in my opinion, the best actor in the Hindi film industry, past and present. The chocolate-boy from Qayamat Se Qayamt Tak, has long-shed his image as such, and defies logic by playing roles that, at first glance, seem impossible for someone with his looks to accomplish. If you think his performances in Sarfarosh and Lagaan were great, I think the clincher is this movie, simply because the role is so different. The seemingly happy-go-lucky character with no worry in the world, could not have been played better, be it by the so-called superstar Shahrukh Khan, or by the great Amitabh Bachchan. The only person who could have pulled off this role convincingly is the aging South Indian star Kamalhasan. The movie by itself is a simple love story about the aspirations of a wannabe actress, played by the resurgent Urmila Matondkar, who with the assistance of an unknown mega star (played by Jackie Shroff) and an unselfish, unassuming poor friend (played by Aamir Khan), makes it big in Bollywood. Needless to say, the love triangle surfaces, and one of the two guys plays a martyr in this sacred triangle. Music by AR Rahman is sensational and the direction is simply superb. The movie is a great mix of comedy and drama, and is simply three hours of fun.My recommendation - WATCH IT if you haven't already. On behalf of the millions who have watched it, I think it is safe to say, you will go back to it again when you want to feel good.

I loved Rangeela since the first day I've seen it. I first saw it in 1995. I started to like Urmilla. She looked really cute. I appreciated Aamir Khan's role. He usually plays the innocent quiet dude. But the Munna I saw was a remarkable act that any man in this film industry would die to have. Even in Ghulam his acting was as gr8 as a KHANDALA!! He got me in tears. It is now 2000 & I own the movie & I love it!! The songs done by A.R Rehman were good. It is a film that n-e-1 would love to see. I have a list of my favorite TOP 20 films ever. & Rangeela is 3rd. I felt bad that Aamir didn't win for Best Actor. Why is it that there is always some1 who backs his way up? I mean DDLJ just took over(my 2nd fave film.) It is upsetting that he didn't get an award. I mean Jackie got best supporting actor & Urmilla got appreciated. Ever since I saw the film, Mili was a name I loved. Our family's name of the fish is MILI. We all love Urmilla in my house. We all definitely loved Aamir from the start. His best film was JJWS, & Rangeela just led him to even more success. Jackie was a gr8 guy in the film not telling MILI of his love for her. I respected @ the fact that he gave her up to make her & Munna happy. He knows that TANHA TANHA YAHA PE JEENA, YEH KOI BAAT HAI?? Overall to be on my TOP 3 films is a good thing b/c I probably watch 300-400 films a year & most of them end up on my boring list.Rangeela is a film that will always be in my heart & the 3rd best film ever. The music by A.R was unbeatable.Esp. Tanha tanha. Asha did a good job & so did the lyrics by Mehboob. The area & background of this film was awesome. RANGEELA-I LOVE YOU.love 1 of the gr8 experienced rangeeli fans-anisha datta!!
