Info

This program reveals the unorthodox life of Puyi, the last Emperor of China, through the use of rare footage from the period. Puyi's story, set against the immense luxury of the Chinese nobility, the decadent 1930s in Tianjin, the upheaval of World War II, the bleakness of prison, plus the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution, reflects the turbulent history of China and its people during the early and middle 20th Century.

Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
bolno1 Brilliant accurate thorough historical biographical account of the last emperor of China. Amazing never before seen real life film footage throughout. A must see documentary which provides a deeply accurate account of his life, making this documentary a great precursor when then watching the motion picture The Last Emperor. This allows a full appreciation and understanding in full to the story line of the motion picture made in 1986. It exposes the traumatic conflicting journey of the mans life. It also allows a better visual and narrative understanding of China's turmoil during its transition from feudal society to Republic to then finally people's republic. China and The Last Emperors turmoil coincides. This documentary can be found on YouTube.
