TownRootGuy 90's me would want to jump in time and kick my old ass for saying this but Damon does a good job, as he usually does. Ugh, Gigli proved I backed the wrong buddy.This movie is a must see for Damon fans and anybody who wants to know more about the fracking industry. It has good info AND it doesn't have to pump you full of toxic chemicals to get some laughs out of you. It's a pretty good show and I can watch it every 5 years or so.

leplatypus I didn't include this movie in my video run with Frances and it was an error. But it was understandable to be as cautious as lately, American movies have plunged into harmless conformism with bad directors, bad cast praising sex, money, authority and violence ! In other words, audience are kept entertained but not enlightened. As this movie is just the opposite, it was really good ! Maybe it's a bit binary but at least we have data from both sides to make an opinion : as it's told, families and earth are involved and it's not that easy to decide and balance. But if the process needs careful evaluation, the movie shows clearly what we can't accept and that is lies, treachery, duplicity in the name of greed ! With that plot, the cast is indeed remarkably well chosen because Frances is really labeled being straight, docile while Damon is really the good guy ! It was also great to go to another Smallville and it's was a discovery to learn that this rural America is also threatened by desertification like my old country ! But the real difference is the democratic answer as depicted in the movie in which America seems to let its citizens decide where in my country, it's our Président- curator who decide alone for 60 millions. That's why the movie was so much interest for me as we can see a real debate to go for or refuse shale oil while in France it has been totally forbidden without any consultation !

tanchimc-11296 I haven't seen a movie for a while, that would be so honest and deep in so many levels, as this one. I was surprised to see such low grades on it, when everything and everyone in it, are just brilliant. Matt Damon, superb as always, Frances the same, dialogs are good and witty, scenery and message of the movie is touching. Its a crazy thing, where this world is going...We are losing everything and still nobody cares about all that, when the right amount is offered. Yes, there is money in our land, its in the gas or oil, or something else, but when this money is spent, what is there left?what will we eat and where will we live?...Its a scary thought and a scary future, that will happen, whether we like it or not.There isn't a lot of Matt Damons out there that could stop it happen and even he wasn't able to... I will be thinking about this movie and its message for a very long time..

santiagocosme The last movie I remember watching which combined Van Sant and Matt Damon was "Good Will Hunting", one of my personal favorites. A lot of time has passed however, and even though Matt Damon is still a fantastic actor, not even his great acting skills could turn Promised land into a good movie. It's OK, you can watch it, but I doubt you will find it memorable. The problem here is that the theme of the movie is not very interesting. A consultant for an energy group (Matt Damon) goes to a small town in the middle of nowhere to convince the locals that his company is the way to go and that by switching to natural gas, they will benefit and get rich. I don't know what you think, but the sound of natural gas and cowboys doesn't make me very excited.Still, I did manage to go through the whole movie, and at least it did have an unexpected turnaround at the end that made it more interesting and earned it a couple of points in my ratings. But still, with the amount of movies that you can watch, if you haven't seen it yet, go for another one.
