Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Princesa is a very dark and gritty film. It is based on a novel of the same name written by Maurizio Janelli. The film details the story of Fernanda, a Brazilian transsexual woman who immigrates to Italy in order to begin prostitution; not because she wants to, but simply because it was the only way to finance her goal of having a sexual reassignment surgery. Her self-esteem is taken to extreme lows until she meets Gianni; a levelheaded man who Fernanda as a real woman and not a sexual object. Some of Fernanda's self-esteem is regained through this relationship, but Fernanda still questions her own self-worth for not being born with a completely female body. The film itself is visually dark because most of the scenes take place at night. This alone shows how transgered individuals are forced to work night-jobs, usually in the sex industry. The look of the film itself is also very gritty. This helps to communicate an unsettling sense of reality as such a struggle is not an uncommon thing. The acting by Ingrid de Souza is top-notch, considering she is a transsexual female herself. The acting is very believable, in such a sense that it is almost not even acting; because Ingrid was apparaently channeling her own experiences and emotions into the performance. This is what makes the film so real.If one choses to watch this film, don't expect any comedy, any amazing spectacle, or to feel happy at the end of the film. Be prepared to watch something that depicts a very unfortunate reality.

Princesa is a romance movie based on a non fiction book written by Jannelli and Fernanda Farias de Albuque. Fernanda is a transgender and moved to Italy to get gender-change surgery, and she worked as a prostitute to make money. She hope to be a woman and live as a woman, so she was looking for someone who treat her as that. Gianni is the one who is ideal for her, and he is attracted by her warmth like mother's. Even though her surround were against, she feel easy when she is with him. However, Gianni's ex-wife visit to her and she opens up to be pregnant. At last, She understand it's biologically impossible to realize his hope that is to have kids, so she decide to brake up with him, and live as a prostitute again. This movie portraits principal of men. When Fernanda and her friend, Charlo discuss about their customers, Charlo said " every men's gay" . Even though this is extrema opinion, men are tend to have mother complexity. Men are always expected to behave like a warier and protect women, so sometimes they want to feel easy like being held by mother. That's why they go to the men prostitute.

Princesa is a film directed by Henrique Goldman in 2001. It tells the story of a transsexual woman who goes to Italy and works as a prostitute in order to earn money and pay for the SRS. I really like the film since it is very different from other transsexual films which I've seen before. Maybe it is because the film is released in Europe; therefore, the sexual scenes are more open and more acceptable to display to audience. I think the fans of the genre would be satisfied since it really shows the problems that transsexual people usually face in daily life. Not all transsexual people come from rich family; thus, it is really hard for poor transsexual people to pay the fee of sex change operation. However, it is really difficult for them to find a normal job since most of the people would discriminate them. The editing style is outstanding. The lighting is really dark in order to reflect the mood of corrupt life that Fernanda has. But, the lighting is getting brighter and brighter when Fernanda meets Gianni, a married businessman, which shows that Fernanda changes her lifestyle and becomes more like a normal person who has confident. The lighting is back to darkness when Fernanda leaves Gianni and goes back to her previous life as being a prostitute. Also, the director uses many short cuts during the sexually parts. The movie tries to tell viewer that people should be confident while facing problems. Fernanda loves Gianni since she feels that Gainni treats her as a real woman. However, she leaves him at the end because she does not have self confidence. Also, she knows that by doing the sex change operation, she still cannot pregnant and give Gainni a child.

This film depicts the story of Fernanda, who is born as a male but considers "herself" as a female. She migrated to Italy to work as a prostitute, hoping to earn money for her sex reassignment surgery. There she met Gianni, who fell in love with her later despite knowing her true identity. In the end, she chose to leave him and stay being a prostitute because she knows that they cannot have the future that Gianni wants. The story is sad, and it gives the audience a feeling that it is very realistic. The music used in the film matches well with the scenes, it works to give more sentimental feeling to the piece. The opening scene is shocking, and it shows Fernanda's extremely low self-esteem. This scene already hints that something unusual is going on in the film, and it prepares the audience for that. The plot is organized in a nice way, which progresses well to fit Fernanda's change of mind, from eager for SRS to finally willing to stay as a woman trapped in a man's body. She sacrifice a lot for Gianni, and it is very painful for her to make the decision. In general, the movie is a good one. It is more explicit than the others, since sexual scenes takes up quite a large portion of the film. This may be referred to the cultural extent, as stereotypically Europeans gives others a feeling that they are more open to sex. Acting is good, and I think the casting is perfect as the actress is a transsexual herself. She has been through all the real struggles and she is basically a different Fernanda. It is not that much acting for her, and I think this is the main element which makes this piece a good one.
