Actuakers
One of my all time favorites.
FirstWitch
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Nayan Gough
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

This was the film by Henry King I least liked - the production is alright but nothing really happens for me until... The supposed blinding scene and the (not so) supposed happy ending. Let me explain myself and hopefully Henry King - this grand master: there are two different versions and two different endings provided simultaneously! This is only done in Shakespeare - As you like it. One for the audience and one for the few.

I love this movie! It is great swashbuckling fun. The only thing that I really don't like about it is Wanda Hendrix who looks utterly wrong in all the gorgeous Renaissance settings -- too all- American, too obviously a Hollywood starlet. They could probably have found any number of Italian actresses who would have been perfect. Note, in reply to first comment: it wasn't Andorra that stood in for Citta del Monte, it was San Marino (a tiny independent hill town/country completely surrounded by Italy). One scene was filmed in Siena -- but others were filmed in other locations around Italy -- San Gimignano, for one. And also of course in studios in Cinecitta.

I only get to see this when its on TV and have never yet had the pleasure of seeing the film in its entirety. Definitely one of Tyrone Powers' best performances, and a superb supporting cast. Surprising for Hollywood of the time (and for Hollywood of all time, actually), the flavor of the film and its characters are accurate to the time and place of the film's setting. This film and Leslie Howard's "Pimpernel Smith" are two of the films I most regret lacking from my film library. Why is this not on DVD? Why is Myra Breckinridge, On Deadly Ground, and Gigli? Proof positive that movie industry executive have their heads firmly inserted in warm, dark, and smelly place.

This is a highly unusual movie simply because of the subject matter--the Borgias and the consolidation of power in the Italian states during the 15th and 16th centuries. I've gotta admit that this earns an extra point or two just for originality. Power plays a soldier of fortune--a role he is well suited for, as in many ways, it's almost like his pirate movies or Zorro! So, the transition is smooth. Also, the story and supporting actors are excellent. I recommend this film especially to lovers of old films and adventure movies. I think some teens and kids would also enjoy it, but considering the short attention-spans of most kids these days, you might think twice before having them watch this movie (or just force them to watch because it's good entertainment by gum!).
