printhead1 I don't know what compelled me to watch this film but it was a total waste of time.The director failed miserably in conveying whatever message (if any) or half-baked political/social allegory he was trying to. This film is as soulless, vapid and empty as the characters it was trying to portray. At times it is even downright insulting; it actually propounds the ignorance, apathy (and countless stereotypes) that it may have been attempting to critique.Even if this film wasn't attempting to say anything meaningful, it failed to fulfill its basic function as a comedy. Despite the attempts of the writers/director to be witty and ironic, the jokes were so vulgar that I wonder whether Marcos Siega has even heard of the word 'subtlety'.Moreover, all of the characters are ugly and stupid, except for the main character (who apparently has a record-breaking IQ but never says or does anything to affirm this - probably because the writers of this atrocity are total idiots who can't come up with a good line of dialogue to save their lives). Nothing significant or meaningful or even logical ever comes of any of the events that take place. *******************spoilers****************** I also thought that Randa's suicide was also irresponsible and, once again, totally illogical. It advances some incredibly ignorant stereotypes. I spent the whole duration of Pretty Persuasion waiting for something redeeming or clever to happen but it never did. The plot is extremely contrived and the ending is comparable to a join-the-dots activity for a two year old. Every element of this poorly written and heavy handedly plotted film converges to form what may be the biggest anti-climax in film history. The final 'twist' hinged on a stupid and paltry cliché.In conclusion, I felt violated by how stupid this film is. I can't understand why something like this was ever made.

Kristine OK, that was a lame joke, but it's exactly what I thought of when I finished watching Pretty Persuasion. After touring Hollywood Video going around in circles a million times, a cute guy that I just had to flirt with recommended Pretty Persuasion and said that it was a huge recommendation. Well, I had to look cute and like I was interested, so I rented it, I watched it this morning just expecting a good movie, but I have to say that this was a good recommendation, because it was a great movie. I just love dark comedies, even if they push the edge, this was just a meaner version of Mean Girls, in my opinion it's a mixed version of Mean Girls and Cruel Intentions to sum it up. Pretty Persuasion is a great film with good acting, a twisted story, and has some of the funniest dark scenes I have seen in a while, James Woods was the show stealer for me, but the whole cast did a fantastic job pulling the story together well.Kimberly Joyce is a student at high class Beverly Hills High School, she has two friends, pretty and popular Britney, and a new Arab student, Randa. Kimberly and Britney want to be actresses and just live the high life. Kimberly's family life isn't all glam though with her gold digging step mother and neglectful, racist, alcoholic father who is all about image. But the girls take a giant leap in accusing their English teacher of sexual harassment to get famous. Or at least that's the motive that Kimberly has led the girls to believe.Pretty Persuasion is a great dark comedy, I don't think it's for everyone though, it is flawed in some ways. Some of the messages are sent the wrong way and the direction was just alright, but I thought it ended brilliantly and for some sick reason I really liked Kimberly's sadistic side, her way of stabbing people with a smile on her face, she was wicked, but so cool in the way she did everything. The best performance besides Wood was James Woods, he was just dead on with his character and as much of a jerk as his character was, he was in some sick way still likable. I don't know why, I knew I was supposed to hate a lot of these characters, but I found them to be so human a the bored rich people who have nothing better to do than complain. I would recommend Pretty Persuasion, if you like dark comedies, this is right up your alley.8/10

lcunningham1986 when I stumbled across this movie on demand I wasn't really sure what to expect, but thankfully it was £2.50 well spent. Normally Dark comedies aren't really my cup of tea but this movie blew me away, would have watched it all over again if it wasn't 3 in the morning! Every performance was outstanding, i loved James Wood as the dad I thought he was hilarious in spite of his racist remarks and once again Evan Rachel Woods is on top form, conducting the world to exact her revenge on 'best friend' Brittany who stole her boyfriend and despite all this I still found myself rooting for her in the end. The best quote to sum up this movie is 'It's like the world is this orchestra and I'm the conductor.' it just shows the manipulation Kimberley Joyce can get away with! I would watch this movie again in a heartbeat, but thats because i'm not easily offended by a movie and can enjoy it for what it is!!

oldarney it was pure awesome. everything from the very being was linked in a very very genius was for lack of words.its about an extraordinary girl who controls the world with her intelligence. cold hearted, smart as hell, pure genius. its definitely one of the best movies I've seen. the main actors a high school girls witch Kimberly uses as puppets for her master plan. the movie does have a bit of sexually directed content but shows nothing but the face and sounds. an intriguing aspect is her stepmother witch Kimberly insults with "go f the dog". the dog its self is interesting and plays a very important part of the movie, in fact just about every scene in the movie plays an import part in understanding the phenomena the is Kimberly. in end pure genius.
