This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Gerard Butler plays an ex professional footballer trying to kick-start his life in America by becoming a sports presenter and be near his son.Butler plays George Fryer, who played for Celtic, Liverpool (he was there 'at that famous night in Istanbul') and also played for his national team, Scotland before playing soccer in the USA.A bit like George Best he has lived the good life and is now short of cash and in order to get closer with his son, he coaches the kids soccer team which means all the soccer moms wants to bed him. Butler still carries a torch for his ex wife who is planning to marry someone else.Butler enjoys playing a footballer who is a babe magnet much to puzzlement of his landlord who is always chasing him for the rent. Butler displays an easy charm but there is very little original in a story where the women are shown to be shallow and vapid.

Playing for Keeps (2012): Dir: Gabriele Muccino / Cast: Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Dennis Quaid, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman: The title references family but it really indicates the studio and their cheapest methods of getting money for stupid movies such as this one. Simple plot stars Gerard Butler as a former soccer star now a divorced father struggling for work. When he takes over his son's soccer team he becomes the target of every soccer mom within reach. The cast suffer through this embarrassment. Only Butler comes away with any dignity juggling soccer, his kid and the fact that his ex-wife is engaged to a guy with about as much personality as a garbage bag. Jessica Biel as his ex-wife is either complaining or shedding more tears than what a mop can clean up. Dennis Quaid overplays a rich parent whose wife sleeps around and eventually lands in Butler's flat in a sequence that is never believable in terms of how Butler handles it. And the outcome of it is stupid and misplaced with its lame shoving match presentation. We have Catherine Zeta-Jones hooking up Butler with a career option while really looking to be banged. The most embarrassing woman makes an ass of herself with her crying approach and showing up unannounced at his apartment. This is perhaps the most embarrassing performance for an actress of the talent of Uma Thurman. Director Gabriele Muccino fails to make this either funny or dramatically warranted. This film is nauseating and about as much fun to watch as having soccer moms line up and kick you repeatedly in the family jewels. Score: 1 ½ / 10

Playing for Keeps is a romantic comedy that features Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel together with Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid. The screenplay is about a former professional soccer star that has reached the end of his luck as financial troubles keep brewing him from day to day.It was directed by Gabriele MuccinoGeorge Dryer is a former soccer pro whose attempts to raise money has been nothing short but futility which keeps him in financial troubles. Then one day,he decides to rebuild his relationship with his son by becoming the football coach of their team.In the process, many mothers throw themselves at him as he is charming and good looking. As his relationship with his son progresses, his former wife also realizes that she still loves him that they soon end in as a happy family. And guess what?He goes out of financial trouble as well as he was hired by a sports network to be their analyst after many failed attempts in doing so.Gerard Butler has definitely been consistent in embarrassing himself in bad romcoms. He gets to do so once again in Playing For Keeps as the story was both witless and humorless. Also, the comedic scenes were definitely far from funny as categorized all mothers having young kids as whores. This definitely insults actual mothers who are actually involved with their children's activities in school. Also, the story was somewhat a disappointment for it was unoriginal, clichéd,flat and predictable. What's worse,we get to see bad performances especially from Biel who overacted in her portrayal of Stacie and as she has no chemistry whatsoever with Butler.Overall, this romcom simply fails at all levels for both humor and romance was definitely missing.

Enjoyable movie to watch, but painful to see the web of lies related to being in a relationship. Cheating, the lies, lust, sex. Wow. If this is what it's like in real life, I rather be single.Too bad the children are always caught in the middle of these things.Overall, it was an.......entertaining movie to say the least. Direction was excellent, cinematography was excellent, acting was excellent. You know the synopsis already. A former superstar in the world of soccer is having financial difficulties, divorced, and seem like nothing is going for him. All that turns around when he starts coaching peewee soccer....
