Excellent adaptation.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

I had read the book and was expecting a decent movie, however, this movie was horrible. Don't waste your time on it. It is completely different from the book and Annabeth looked 20, not 12. I understand that being able to include everything is practically impossible, but adding new stuff is completely stupid. That was two hours of my life that I will never get back

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the lightning thief is a very entertaining and visually appealing movie. First of all I would like to commend Logan Lerman on his performance as Percy, he really captured his essence and portrayed him well, good balance of innocent nice high schooler and a bad ass demi god. Alexandra Daddario is also good in this film. I really liked Catherine Keener as Percy's mother, and pierce brosnan was a smart casting choice as well, he just has such a wise older essence that was needed for his character. And I can't really remember who plays Luke, but I really liked him, he brings a handsome smug look to his character. The visual effects here are very impressive, and it's really fun to look at. I specially love the way they did Hades, I just thought it was really cool the way they designed it. Rosario Dawson has a great cameo here, she plays the sexy cheating wife of hades that really hate him and doesn't want to be in hell. No I've never read the book but I really liked the plot of this movie and I thought they executed it well throughout. This movie definitely is a great choice if you are looking for a good fantasy action movie. Oh and lastly I'd like to give a very big shout out to Uma Thurman, by far the best casting decision of the entire movie, well besides lurman that is. She is an awesome medusa! 8/10.

I hadn't heard of the books written by Rick Riordan before I watched the film so had no clue about the characters or story. The basic outline of the movie is Percy is a young teen living with his mother and her horrible boyfriend. He finds out to his surprise that he is a half demigod and his father is none other than Poseidon, God of the sea. He soon finds himself and his mother in danger when he's accused of stealing zeus's thunderbolt and he has to go on a mission to find it before it can be used as a means to start a war. I didn't mind that it was riding on the coat tails of Harry Potter and Twilight. I liked the concept of gods coming to earth in modern times and having children. I also like they have a camp where they can be themselves away from disbelieving humans and protected from outside forces. It has an all star cast of Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan, Rosario Dawson and Uma Thurman who added much needed star power to the film as the three main leads are actors I'm unfamiliar with.I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would and look forward to seeing the next film in the series.

The only things from the book that were really kept here are: Percy is Poseidon's son, he is accused of stealing a lightning bolt, has a pen that turns into a sword, and goes on a quest to get it back. There were a lot of funny, important plot details that were left out here. They kept in the absolutely major plot details, yes, but it all feels to rushed and forced to be an accurate rendition of the book to the screen. The screenwriter should be ashamed. I hope that this series will be cut where it is, and maybe in a few years, they will remake the movies with actors of the correct age, and portray Riordan's work well.
