Rogue-32 I dvr'd this when I saw that Ellen Page was in it, not even realizing Cillian Murphy was actually the star, or rather the STARS, since he plays two characters, his male side and his female side. He portrays both absolutely flawlessly.From the very beginning when the character is introduced as Emma, I knew from the synopsis that 'she' was physically 'John', but I bought it completely, thanks to Murphy's subtle, masterful and thoroughly engrossing performance. When he changes back into John, to ride his bicycle to the Peacock city bank where he works, I bought that completely as well.The story evolves slowly, deliberately, with details (about John's tormented upbringing at the hands of a clearly deranged mother)cleverly brought to light without ever saying too much; this is an example of how less can most definitely be more: the viewer finds himself/herself involved emotionally and gradually feeling true heartbreak for this soul, and it's all done with not even a shred of heavy-handedness or contrivance.A lot of people have carped about how the townspeople never catch on that John and Emma are the same person, but I didn't have a problem with this, as I said earlier, because to me, they were NOT the same person.Again, as I already mentioned, Murphy's characterizations of both are stunningly, seemingly effortlessly portrayed. I was reminded a bit of Jeremy Irons' dual/dueling characters in Dead Ringers, where of course the difference was that the Mantle twins, Beverly and Elliot, were indeed two separate people, lost in a sick, destructive symbiotic relationship. Thanks to great subtlety by Irons, you could tell when he was Beverly and when he was Elliot, both when they were on the screen at the same time and separately.In Peacock, John and Emma are not actually seen separately in physical form, but there are scenes where the two of them are fighting internally for identity control. This is brilliantly portrayed by Murphy, who, as a Gemini, fully comprehends the male/female duality in each of us.A lot of people have also carped about the seemingly 'confusing' ending, which 'ruined' the movie for them. I felt the opposite. The ending was perfect. Emma is there, at the window, once again, but so is John. This is displayed purely by Murphy's body language. The ending gave me the chills.

cpeklay What to say that hasn't already been said very well about peacock? This movie chills me every time, murphy is extraordinary. I can't understand why this film was just buried? This is sundance gold! Any film festival should have just eaten this sh*t up. Yet very few know pf this movie. This is not a comparison, by any means. Just saying the last film that affected me so much was we need to talk about kevin (06/2012) which, if you haven't seen....... SEE NOW! OK. Back to peacock. Sarandon in wonderful in her go-get-em-girl, we-can-do-it way. Surprises came in the rest of the supporting cast, a few of which normally don't impress me much, the whole town seemed so real. I believed that they believed who she was. I believed they thought of them as a married couple. Murphy does such a fantastic job bringing both characters to life (yeah, split personality is done a lot, but this one's worth it) Here's a couple movies u should watch if you love peacock, just sending film ideas out there, like peacock, many of these are underseen etc...Hard candyPerfumeZombie strippers (i sh*t you not it's genius! macblackslair If you want to see an actor exceeding himself in a quite disturbing setting, you should give "Peacock" a try. Cillian Murphy plays the quite quiet bank employee John Skillpa who keeps his life and his whereabouts to himself. One of these aspects is Emma Skillpa, a second personality John has developed in secrecy. In the mornings, Emma takes - nicely made up and dressed - care of John's breakfast, lunch, and everything else a husband might have to do. After breakfast, John takes over and leaves for yet another day at work. Everything changes, though, when Emma is accidentally presented to the public and people in town are suddenly aware of her existence. Things start to turn and John's life is about to change dramatically.A fantastic Susan Sarandon, a bittersweet Ellen Page, and a believable Josh Lucas play alongside Cillian Murphy who portrays both John and Emma convincingly. The pace of "Peacock" seems just fine and increases as it is supposed to be. I liked the directing of "Peacock" because it creates suspense and despair at the same time and catches the audience's attention nicely. The soundtrack is a wonderful addition to the somehow depressing settings of John's home and his office at work. People looking for a movie that simply looks and feels good, will presumably not enjoy watching "Peacock". It is absolutely nothing to be seen in between or just to have a good time. The audience is forced to deal with John's mind, his life, and his past. Some questions might even be left unanswered after watching, but this also depends on the audience and the attention people pay. I was truly satisfied with this movie and the actors' performances. Too bad "Peacock" did obviously not get the attention it deserves.

samdavidson192 What a waste of talented actors. I'd probably only watch this movie again if i was intoxicated and felt like laughing at a man dressed as a woman for two hours. No wonder this went straight to video. thinking it would be interesting and it is not. it's just a man dressed as a woman in 1950. That's what the whole movie is about! my and my friend were cracking up at it. In the beginning there is a train wreck that looks totally fake, It is hilarious. In general however, it has no story and really wasn't about anything. Susan Sarandon just seems like she does not want to be there. It's very boring as wellI'd be curious to see if the filmmakers on this make anything else.
