PCU Audience Reviews

Listonixio Fresh and Exciting
Pacionsbo Absolutely Fantastic
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
Scott LeBrun As far as homages to / imitations of "Animal House" go, this has to rank as a pretty good one. It's got good characters, some amusing dialogue, decent satire of special interest groups, and a cool soundtrack. Its pacing is acceptable, its running time brief (81 minutes in total), and its spirit irresistible.Marking a rare directorial effort by actor Hart Bochner (who's best known as weaselly executive Ellis in the action classic "Die Hard"), "PCU" features Chris Young as Tom Lawrence, a clean cut, wide eyed "normal" sort of guy who is checking out Port Chester University to see if he'd like to go there in the fall. He gets caught up in the fervor of various "politically correct" activists, as well as the activities of the wacky guys and gals of The Pit, a student group known for their nonconformity. As you may guess from that running time, there's really not that much story here, but there are enough laughs to keep the movie watchable. Jeremy Piven contributes a charismatic star turn as "Droz", leader of The Pit. Megan Ward and Sarah Trigger supply appealing love interests for Young and Piven. Jessica Walter does fine as an easier-on-the-eyes version of Dean Vernon Wormer. David Spade is extremely well cast as the snooty and smarmy preppie McPherson. There are also engaging performances by actor / director Jon Favreau and Alex Desert. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic further spice things up with their appearance. The climactic party shows how sometimes people just need to lighten up and enjoy life a little more. With its well defined protagonists and antagonists, the end is appropriately satisfying, and overall "PCU" provides solid entertainment to those just looking to have a good time.Seven out of 10.
sbruner The tag-line for this film reads, "Flunk em' if they can't take a joke" and if this is really so I was more than happy to fail this exam. Apparently this film is supposed to be about the repressive effects of political correctness on the college campus, however, as far as I could tell, it was about playing frisbee with Jake Busey, throwing meatballs out of windows, and..., well, that pretty much wraps it up. I know jeremy pivven is supposed to be the cute, wacky guy who never learned to grow up, but i found something slightly disturbing about a thirty-five year old, slightly balding man who thinks throwing raw hamburger out of windows is somehow both funny and controversial. He kind of reminded me of that pathetic thirty-year old guy who could never quite get over his high school glory days, so he had to hang out by the local liquor store, offering to buy teens alcohol in exchange for their camaraderie. That guy you thought was cool when you were younger and only later realised what a loser he really was. Now, I know you might have been deceived by the flashy movie jacket, which depicts a poorly super-imposed Pivven, holding a poorly super-imposed beer(which looks as if it may have been drawn with crayolas), but don't be fooled by this clever advertising campaign, first of all, there isn't a single glass of beer in the whole movie(apparently the budget was too tight to splurge on a six-pack of PBR)and secondly, this movie is really just a giant flaming piece of poo. In fact, the only reason I stuck through most of it was because I was hoping Jake Busey would eventually smuggle a bomb on to the set and end the entire movie "Contact" style, but unfortunately, much to my dismay, this never happened.
wonkabar04 The movie wasn't as bad as this guy makes it out to be. I find it pretty funny, although it certainly has its bad parts and occasional cheezy lines. Overall, it's not a total waste of time. It catches that whole 90's druggie/nirvana/i wish i was a hippie sorta vibe. Along with all of the other stupid mentalities of the time, without making you go insane. Some really good actors in it too. Without them, the movie wouldve stunk even more. Spade, Favreaux, (and the other main guy who i forgot) especially. The funniest line: (short monologue inside The Pit) "This is a cry for help...I wanna get laid!" Try it- if you're going to college, it'll give you a laugh. Its actually based on PCU's apparent history of stupid daily protests. Who knew.
Seth Goldsmith A lot of people call this movie a third rate Animal House. I can't really argue with that assesment, but at the same time...I really, really love PCU. I watch it whenever it is on Comedy Central. I love the cast of the movie, I love the making fun of sacred cows like the PC movement of the mid 90's, I love that this movie gleefully embraces every cliche of the college comedy. I am a film student with film studenty tastes most of the time, but I really love this movie, and can't quite explain why.
