Maidexpl Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
nadinesalakovv Iv'e streamed this film a few times, and iv'e had mixed feelings about it, i recently rented it on Amazon Prime and iv'e realized that this type of movie can only be entertaining if you pay close attention to the plot from start to finish. The tech-talk can be confusing to people who are not tech-geeks, the computer-talk alone can get you to lose interest, but if you stick with it and thoroughly follow what is going on - the movie becomes interesting.
Daniel Elford Why does Liam Hemsworth run like that? How often does he shower? Does he wax? Why can't they seem to frame Gary Oldman's face correctly? Why is this called 'Paranoia'? Just a few questions of many you might ask yourself whilst watching said movie. If this were a shoddy made-for-TV thriller, I would be saying it's not too bad, but for a major release featuring these names, one has to wonder what happened. One can see how, on paper, the film may have appealed; the idea itself holds some promise, in the right hands, of being at least mildly interesting and gripping. On watching, however, one can also easily imagine the deflation everybody must have felt as they discovered director Robert Luketic is not those said right hands. Only this can explain the general sense of disinterest in the performances. To be frank, perhaps a resume that includes 'Legally Blonde', 'Monster In Law' and 'The Ugly Truth' should have served as fair warning so, on second thought, maybe there is limited sympathy available to Ford and Oldman. That said, they do enough to fulfil their roles, with Oldman easily being the best thing about the movie. Far from awful, and even further from good, 'Paranoia' plods through a dopey, obvious, cliché-riddled techno-espionage plot and wastes everybody's time in the process.
SnoopyStyle Adam Cassidy (Liam Hemsworth) gets a chance to pitch to tech titan Nicolas Wyatt (Gary Oldman). It doesn't go well and his entire team is fired. He takes the company card and spend the rest of his budget on a night at a high end club with his team. He sleeps with Emma Jennings (Amber Heard). Wyatt takes his indiscretion with the company card to blackmail him into a corporate spy against Wyatt's competitor and former mentor Jock Goddard (Harrison Ford). He discovers that Emma works PR for Goddard. FBI Agent Gamble (Josh Holloway) warns him of Wyatt's darker operations. Adam's father (Richard Dreyfuss) is concerned but Wyatt threatens to harm his father. This is pretty boring. Liam Hemsworth can't seem to project the required fear and intensity. Oldman shows flashes of intensity but he's the only one. There is a lack of edginess. Even the high tech subject matter feels old and dated. Instead of filming in 2012, this movie could have been done 5 years before that. The directions from Robert Luketic lack any energy. It feels stale. Other than a few passable rom-coms, he has done nothing particularly good. This is a minor failure considering the acting power involved in this movie. The plot tries to ramp up the action but it doesn't fit the story. Once they start waving guns around and running people over, the whole concede of a tech company controlling everything falls apart. Adam can't compete with their vast tech resources but put a gun in his hand and he's more powerful than Wyatt. It's not a good move to threaten him with guns and violence. The story should be more imaginative.
luke-stanley-97-478615 PARANOIAAfter watching this film I was extremely surprised to see that this film only managed to muster a5.6 user rating on IMDb, so that rating has prompted me to write the following review!!!Paranoia is filmed in Philadelphia USA and the plot focuses on a young ambitious digital genius Adam Cassidy played by (Liam Hems-worth) In the beginning of the film Adam is desperately attempting to land a pitch trying to revolutionize the digital world and cement his future with the company he works for called Wyatt Corp that specializes in technological devices. Adam is unsuccessful in landing his pitch and is shown the door by the founding owner of Wyatt Corp played by cinema veteran (Gary Oldman) venting his frustration Adam decides to treat his coworkers to a night on the town at Wyatt Corps expense, blowing thousands on a company allowance card, a night of drinking, dancing and wild fun clubbing in New York City sounds like a kick arse time right??? wrong! Unfortunately for Adam and his friends this free night out will have serious consequences for Adam, his friends and their future. To avoid prosecution from authorities, Adam is blackmailed by Wyatt Corp and must secure a job for a rival company who's owner is Jack Goddard played by (Harrison ford) Adam is to infiltrate and and abuse the trust of several people, one of whom is Emma Jennings Adams love interest in the film played by (Amber Heard) this job is simple, to steal the corporations secrets and any new advancements made on their technologies that can give Wyatt Corp financial gain in this competitive market, suddenly the digital world adam wanted to succeed in is being used against him as they watch every move he makes & will no doubt compromise his safety if he is unable to deliver in this deadly game. The film is directed by Robert Luketic from films '21 & killers' in his films its obvious that his strengths as a director is the ability to deliver both suspense and romance to the audience & this film slots into his genre perfectly with both those elements and an additional element of darkness portrayed in both Villains in this story who are ruthless and will do anything to win at all costs Luketic has also done a fantastic job of taking the audience into the digital wold in this film with specialized technology that is intriguing & really gets the imagination working,In particular most visual aspects of this film are very pleasing on the eye from hand held devices to a very stylish set design delivering a warm tones throughout the film. This highly addictive thriller Paranoia takes into a new digital age & the cost of global success to a ugly desire driven world of greed and deception hate, love and pain. The two Hollywood heavyweights give great performances portraying powerful tech billionaires (Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman) are old bitter, twisted rivals with a spiteful hateful past who will stop at nothing to have mass advantage over their competition in this crazed digital world This film has it all suspense, romance and a dark element if you will which helps make this film exciting and diverse.Review by MovieWhore
