The Oscar choices for Best Animated Short left me and the audience at the theater confused and annoyed when we saw them this morning. Never before had I gone to a showing of the Oscar-nominated shorts (animated or live action) and heard people loudly grumbling about the poor quality of the selections until today. And, while I was not in love with "Nullarbor", it was better than a few of the nominees. The film is quite simple. It consists of a guy driving his convertible on the highway across the Outback of Australia when his urge for nicotine sets in and sets off a weird chain of events. The story has a few funny moments and the animation is decent (the backgrounds are rendered well). Nothing brilliant, but a nice little film that might make you chuckle. Parents might want to think twice before showing this to little ones, however, as there's some vomiting and a few crude scenes. Still, well worth seeing.
