rooprect This film reminds me of classic early Hitchcock films like "Blackmail", "Strangers on a Train" or "Secret Agent". These are films that don't feature a lot of action but instead focus on mood, message, dialogue and the audience's imagination.I'll omit the customary rant about today's Hollywood action flicks with car chases, explosions, cgi & contrived romances with busty supermodels because you don't need to hear it. Suffice it to say that this film is the opposite of that stuff. Here, in Hitchcockian form, we get a quiet, slow-moving freight train of a film. It sparks your imagination as you work to piece together not just the story but the meaning & symbolism behind everything.The title of the film refers to an ear condition suffered by the main character. He is plagued by a high pitched whining in his head which could be indicative of a terminal condition or possibly nothing. Similarly, the film focuses around fear and how it plays with our minds... possibly justified or possibly paranoia, but powerful regardless.The story revolves around a crime, witness protection and an underdog police officer's attempts to deal with it in addition to his own failing life. There is a pervasive feeling of loneliness and disconnection that runs throughout the film, which for some reason reminds me of the Clint Eastwood classic "In the Line of Fire" (about a failed secret service agent trying to wrap his head around an assassination plot.It's slow paced but powerful. I'd say if you're a fan of Wim Wenders ("Wings of Desire", "Paris Texas", "Million Dollar Hotel") or Takeshi Kitano ("A Scene at the Sea", "Fireworks") or Rebecca Miller ("Angela") you'll probably like this film. It doesn't have a lot of flashy pyrotechnics to hold the attention of the average Hollywood-action-flick-junkie, but if you're looking for a powerful, poetic experience, look no further.

mmunier I was trying to remember where I had seen Brendan Cowel, sometime ago! Tonight he was in our "Sixty Minutes" Sunday program and I knew this guy had been something special to me. So hit IMDb, and there I soon spotted "NOISE"! I went to all the reviews to see mine as I was sure I wrote one. But there you are I did not, or if I did it's not there. I did like this movie so much that I can't believe I did not reviewed it, well there are plenty of other things I have to live with although they're not what I want them to be either! Back to Noise - I thought it was a fascinating piece of work. You have to let yourself go and enjoy the ride and you find yourself riding with this guy. A very unusual ride that looks like everybody's eventual boring life with it ups and downs till something suddenly rocks the boredom in the most unexpected way. And you're on the middle of it and the high and the low get higher and lower. Please don't take notice of those who did not get it, even if you may not get it yourself. Take the risk be open.... Oh I wish that Yankee did not toss his DVD in the rubbish bin, I would have paid the postage and even would have added an Aussie pie for him to let me have it! But you can't please everybody all the time! Could not rate it because there was no "15" in the rating drop down list - go and see it.

Chris K Unbelievable characters, in a story so bad I literally threw away the DVD. It was certainly not worth owning this movie. The cops in this movie are portrayed as nasty and abusive on the train, incompetent when dealing with the girl who was in shock. An officer who can't hear is put in a position of minding the store by himself? When he does intervene in trying to saving a handicapped boy's life the DCI is more concerned about the cop not staying with the caravan, than the ease at which anyone could get the witness' home address from the police station.Bad,Bad story.

Rhys (DrBugSmith) Look no further, without doubt the best Australian film you can easily get your hands on. Not very objective I realise but really worth a Sunday afternoon (or more) to immerse yourself. I believe people who dislike this film are expecting too much action or fast paced excitement. Each can be found here but are spread amongst some more drawn out themes. My big gripe was the opening scenes on the train - just didn't seem too plausible in Sydney. Getting inside the lead character's head should be at the heart of most film and here we get a frightfully painful perspective of life that few ever experience. Gritty and realistic acting are the foundation that breathe some life back into the once floundering Australian cinema. I think I can hear a pulse again...
