Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."No One Lives" (R - 2012 - US)Sub-Genre: Slasher/Crime My Score: 7.4Cast=6 Acting=8 Plot=9 Ending=8 Story=7 Scare=6 Jump=5 F/X=9 Blood=9 Twist=7A gang of ruthless highway killers kidnap a wealthy couple traveling cross country only to shockingly discover that things are not what they seem. "A serial killer? Sweet Jesus, no...serial killers deal in singularities...I'm a numbers guy." Not particularly scary, but it had some of the best scenes I have ever watched!! This movie starts out as a crime thriller and evolves into a full on slasher flick. Luke Evans shines as the antagonist...sympathetic in the beginning and ruthless at the end. I wished this could have been franchised...but instead I got to see and enjoy this one-off. Don't drop this one in the wood chipper...drop it in your player instead.

At an early stage in this film it's clear that we're intentionally wrong-footed in how we're supposed to perceive the wealthy couple. They're portrayed as being an average wealthy couple and are the ones who we presume are the victims of a brutal kidnapping by a bunch of highway killers. It's an interesting turn of events when we learn that the highway killers have picked on the wrong couple and it turns out that they are violent psychopathic killers themselves. This, in effect, means that the supposed kidnappers end up being victims to their own crime and this role-reversal does make it quite interesting in the early stages...The film generally maintains this theme for most of its running time; the isolated environment and Luke Evans chilling portrayal does give the film a sense of claustrophobia and also means that the film has many tense and suspenseful sequences. Once Evans is let loose it does become a hard film to take your eyes off and it often leaves the viewer wondering what he will do next. On the downside I did feel that the filmmakers blood-lust got in the way far too often and there were far too many bloody and gory scenes - Evans character was chilling and cold enough in himself and I just felt that all the gore and blood took the focus away from Evans superb performance and cheapened the film somewhat. As I've mentioned Evans is very good here easily bringing the necessary menace and evil to befit his character. Sadly his co-stars let him down badly as they generally fall into the usual stock horror clichés - nearly all of them overact and bicker and at times it got very annoying. It seemed that the writers had run out of ideas by the final third of the film and things start to become rather generic; the original kidnappers are being picked off one by one, but all these scenes are trotted out in a predictable fashion leading to a fairly safe and predictable conclusion. It's a passable film if you keep your expectations low and yes it does have some tension and suspense, but I just didn't feel that it delivered on these things consistently enough and as a result the film was only compelling in parts rather than as a whole.

Yes a mindless killing spree of a psychopathic killer. Actually that's the point of this movie. Not long, not boring (action starts within few minutes). Actually captures you from the minute the killings start and you wonder how the next killing will be like. Much better killing scenes than most of the films in the market. Definitely good choice of soundtrack (better than most the films) Luke Evans is not one of my favorite artists but he's %100 match for the lead role in this movie. Also a blood curdling quote; Female victim: "Why do you do this? Killer: "Well it keeps me in shape" Well I enjoyed watching and please give a try especially if you are into high tension movies.

I give this movie a 6 out 10 because the story was good/interesting enough to make me forget about the horrible acting. The acting is extremely cheesy, Luke Evans was by far the best actor and one of the only actors in this film who didn't come off as fake and trying too hard. The others were too over the top and the script along with it. But if you're looking for something gory, with a semi unique story then this movie is really good. It has some mystery elements to it and it leaves room for the imagination. I feel that they didn't drag it out too long either. And as the title says, No One Lives and trust me, it is very satisfying to see some of these people who make classic horror movie decisions die. If you want good acting with an equally good story, then I suggest go and watch a movie called Vacancy. Over all a good movie.
