Best movie ever!

It's such a bad film that I could not finish it in one shot. There are too many stupid things in this film. Firstly, his ex girlfriend does not know how to behave to calm him down. She's completely stupid that it's unrealistic. The reason why many abused women stay with their abusers is because they're not always violent. No one would stay with someone who is violent every minute of every day. Even this film acknowledges that, Colin can be charming and calm if he wants to. He is incredibly calm with Terry despite being attacked many times. His girlfriend did not get that chance for some reason. He went straight to violence.Meg is also completely stupid. Instead of just going straight to Terry to ask her, she gives Colin the chance to stop her by saying "You're full of sh*t. I'm going to ask Terry about you to expose the total fraud you are." Um... why would you do that? Why would you warn him? This is like terrorists calling the cops to say "We placed a bomb in this building. It'll go off in 24 hours." For a cheesy film, sure, but this attempts to be realistic. Then Terry is the queen of stupidity. She attacked Colin four times and four times she runs away rather than deliver a second incapacitating blow. Instead of hitting him once every 14 minutes, honey, you could've hit him four times in a row and finished the job.Once she sprays him in the eyes with a fire extinguisher then hits him with it and he falls down the stairs. He stays there for a minute. She could've then smashed his fingers with the fire extinguisher and he would be quite useless. She could've taken the gun. Instead she just runs to another room. Colin just gets up because the only damage he has is temporary eye irritation from the foam and the fall down the stairs. She could've knocked him out, broken his fingers, disarmed him, but she chooses to do nothing. She doesn't learn from her mistake, however. The next time she hits him with the base of a lamp, a hard lamp that doesn't break but might cause him real damage, he falls, but instead of delivering another blow, she runs to the fax machine. He just recovers and comes back to her. The third time she actually stabs him with a knife. Instead of stabbing him a second time, she just runs into another room. The fourth time is when she stabs him multiple times but she stops for no reason. There's actually a fifth time, when she knocks him out with a metal thing but she just stares at him quietly until he wakes up and attacks her again. So fire extinguisher, lamp, knife, knife, metal bar, she hits him once with each, but all she does is run to another room.No one is this stupid and if they are, why should we care about them? I don't buy that this woman is a top lawyer of any kind. Also, Colin shows incredible restraint with her but total lack of self control with anyone else. He kills two women without any hesitation but does not hurt Terry once (until she stabs him multiple times, then he gets violent). He's either a violent hot-head or he isn't. You can't have it both ways. Also 911 is receiving a high volume of calls from an area where there's a wind storm? There's a dead police officer (not answering his radio presumably) and an escaped murderer, two dead transport COs, but the cops are just too busy to pick up the phone because everyone is calling to complain about the wind breaking their windows or setting off their car alarms? It makes no sense. What are the neighbors calling the cops about? Obviously it's not tips about the escaped murderer since no one is looking into it.This thing should trigger a statewide manhunt not "We're too busy to pick up the phone. Windstorm and all, you know how it is."And the cops came surprisingly fast considering no one called them. If they did not pick up her call, why would they pick up her husband calling them? We're also supposed to believe that this woman can out-wrestle Idris Elba and slap her husband so hard that he would fall.I gave this film 4 stars but after writing my review it has now dropped to 3.The only thing this film is good for is if it's free on Netflix and you're doing something else like laundry, but I'm not sure we should even be encouraging this crap.

Not that I was anticipating it but I recently decided to watch No Good Deed on cable… Yep, it does not surprise me what makes money at the domestic box office, especially these days. It is made for a modest budget and you get a sexy, shirtless Idris Elba and bam! It skyrockets to number one because you have a lot of women and perhaps some men getting excited at the sight of him…well, hopefully you get the picture. There isn't much more to this movie otherwise. He looks good here…and that's about it. In summation, he plays Colin, who is an unlikeable and uninteresting character who accidentally crashes a vehicle into a tree on one stormy night and shows up on the doorstep of Taraji P. Henson's place. If you made it this far, you can pretty much guess what happens next. I can tell perhaps whoever wrote this was trying to write a clever thriller, but it falls short. I thought the people at the parole board in the beginning were going to let him go, but even I could see the manipulation in Colin's so-called reformation. So he does escape but not in a way that I thought he would, still it isn't much of an amazement. One thing I have wondered after he murders his ex-girlfriend are the fingerprints that were basically all over that house. More to the point is the implausibility of the entire thing. I suppose they wanted to show the vulnerability of a lonely woman, but this comes across as mostly Idris Elba's show. Aside from this movie being dreadfully dull, there are several moments of unintentional laughter. Not referring to the situation itself because yes it is serious, but the over-the- top acting at times. I was cracking up and thinking, 'I don't think they meant this to be funny', but I couldn't help it. As for whatever twists there were, my waning interest was long gone. I know it had something to do with the woman's husband. Maybe she found out that he really didn't go golfing with his father? Maybe he was cheating on her? I don't know. I just didn't care. At least it's a short movie.

My quick rating - 4,8/10. The production values and the actual story are good. Nothing new or exciting really, more a recycled story. But where this movie fails miserably is the sheer stupidity of the protagonist. I understand people may make bad decisions in stressful times (like life threatening) but Taraji Henson took stupidity to a whole new level. I am talking it was so distracting to the movie that I wanted to gouge out my eyeballs with a recently iron forged spoon to put myself out of my misery. The only points aside from my first statement was a good ending to sum things up (which wasn't some surprise, just well crafted) Check it out on cable I suppose but I can't recommend it beyond that.

With such a stellar cast, a good filmmaker, and a trailer that was scary, thrilling, and fun, I thought that 'No Good Deed' would be one of my favorite films of the year. I couldn't be more wrong. If you saw the amazing trailer to this film, you might have thought that it looked great and that someone finally had the amazing Idris Elba play a sadistic bad guy who is terrorizing a woman and her children. It had a lot of promise and potential based on that trailer alone. And since the film had Elba play a bad guy who seemed to be terrorizing a woman in her own home, I secretly wanted a 'Home Alone' type of ending with Idris getting attacked by all sorts of boobytraps. I know that wasn't going to be case, but if it was, I certainly would have enjoyed it.Directed by Sam Miller, who directed several episodes of 'Luther' with Idris, 'No Good Deed' has no mind or soul of its own, even though it looks visually pleasing and has a commanding lead. This PG-13 thriller fails to really show any real suspense or twist that we can't see coming a mile away. It's sad really, because this could have been one of the more thrilling and scarier films this year. But unfortunately, it's a film that will be swept under the rug after its first viewing. Idris plays a man named Colin Evans who has been in prison for five years for manslaughter, and is also a suspect in five murders, all of whom are women. He is denied parole and in this scene, we see Idris's talent come full force as he plays a man who is regretful of his actions and sincere, while still holding that mysterious and sadistic side we see later on in the movie. It's a perfectly tuned role that Idris has knocked out of the park. On the way back to jail, Colin gets a hold of a gun, shoots the police officer and driver, and escapes. Colin has a pit stop to make, which comes to play later on in the film, which I won't spoil for you, but he eventually ends up at Terry's (Taraji P. Henson) house with her young daughter and new toddler. Terry has her friend Meg (Leslie Bibb) coming over for a girl's night, since Terry's husband left on a work trip. Colin, who had just been in an automobile accident rings Terry's doorbell and asks for help.Being involved in an aspect of the law for her job, focusing on abuse and violence, it's hard to realize that she would let a complete stranger in, but she does, and our movie takes off. Colin seems alright at first, but Terry soon discovers the monster he really is as she tries several escape attempts, but all prove unsuccessful. This all leads to a big plot twist reveal at the end of the film, which gives our characters somewhat of a background and reason for this film actually being made. But the thing about it that doesn't work is that we've seen these usual genre tropes and actions a thousand times before in other films, which takes us out of the movie completely and makes us think of the other better movie that did things right.I do think Henson did an outstanding job as the mother protecting her kids from a mad man, but the shining star here is Idris Elba. He really keeps this moving flowing with every scene he's in. And even though he's the bad guy, each scene without him in it, you're wishing he was on screen. 'No Good Deed' missed the mark by a long shot and came across as silly and dull, when it could have been something much better. But at least we get to see Idris scare the living day lights out of us, right?
