My Week with Marilyn Audience Reviews

Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Kaydan Christian A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
merelyaninnuendo My Week With MarilynThe chemistry among the characters; despite of stellar performance, comes off a bit shallow as the audience fails to connect with it. The adaptation by Adrian Hodges isn't smart; even though gripping and keeps the audience engaged with it, for the missing puzzle in here is the poetic tone or a definite point that it never even attempts to reach for. It is rich on costume, production and make-up design but is short on other technical departments like sound department and editing which could have been a lot better if supervised appropriately. Simon Curtis; the director, lacks better execution skills especially around the edges which is a bit chalky in here. The feature scores majestically on performance where each individual supporting cast (Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh) is helping the protagonist (Michelle Williams) to reach the shore safely. The script is the real culprit in here that doesn't breed either the sincerity or the crisp out of the characters or the bubble that they all reside in, wasting a mighty window which could have utilized easily (especially when it's right there). My Week With Marilyn is an easy mundane week which is forgettable as soon as you are off screen.
The Movie Diorama Perhaps not in the sense of authority, but her ability to be the most important person in a room. On a stage, down a street or even waltzing through a school, everyone knew who she was. Her acclaim and beauty was able to captivate everyone. And yet beneath the surface was a troubled young woman where the pressure of work and Hollywood drove her to depression and doubting her own self-belief. Her inexperienced training and method acting contrasted with Laurence Olivier's more traditional and thespian approach, I thought that was conveyed well. If you wanted to watch a film about Monroe's psychological decline, unfortunately this is not the film (although I think it would've benefitted exploring that route). This focusses on the difficult production of The Prince and the Showgirl and the sweet innocent love between third assistant director Colin Clark and Monroe. It's a story that is much about him as it is Monroe. Director Simon Curtis was able to capture the fragility and inevitable heartbreak that one goes through when attempting to pursue their first love. There is a thought provoking line towards the end that reads "our first love is such sweet despair" and is extremely apparent here. This is an actor's film, and what I mean by that is the acting is the primary method of captivation. No visuals, no divisiveness...just outstanding acting. Michelle Williams exhumed elegance and definitely transformed herself to not only look like Monroe but vocally sound like her. It was breathtaking to watch. Eddie Redmayne and Kenneth Branagh were both excellent also and the wealth of British talent was wonderful to watch. I appreciated the narrative to be presented in a cheery and more delightful manner, it makes the experience more uplifting and classy. Whilst I would've liked the exploration into Monroe's depression and addiction to drugs, alcohol etc. I did think the story itself was enthralling enough to be adapted. It's brief, it's concise and it's lovely to watch.
Kirpianuscus the acting is the best part of this biopic. the science of Kenneth Branagh to give a realistic Laurence Olivier. the beautiful work of Judi Dench. the exploration of his role by Eddie Redmayne. and, sure, the decent job of Michelle Williams who has the art to translate a legendary star states and not become herself. sure, the story has the fate of each testimony from a guy who meet a personality. the details about The Prince and the Showgirl backstage are not real important in the case of My Week with Marilyn. important remains the manner to give realistic sketches of few actors and to define the atmosphere of period. and that does Michelle Williams one of the most remarkable interpreter of Marilyn Monroe. and that give a seed of new perception of a splendid classic film. film of its actors, My Week with Marilyn is one of films who must see.
FilmBuff1994 My Week with Marilyn is a great movie with a very well developed storyline and an outstanding cast. It's a very interesting film, as it takes us in to the life of Colin Clark, a man who served as a production assistant during the filming of the Prince and the Showgirl, it is an intriguing story that I had never heard of before, I have a huge interest in film making and getting to get to know what went on in the background of these films will always captivate me, especially if they're as complicated as this one was. I think this film certainly could have been longer, when I saw that it was over it left me wanting more, it's only about ninety minutes long, but a biography film like this could easily go past two hours, it could have shown a lot more of Marilyn Monroe and given us more detail on her past and personal life, I understand the film revolves around Clark, but she is obviously the reason people will watch this movie. Eddie Redmayne shines in the lead role, but the performances of Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh as they play Hollywood icons Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier are simply breathtaking, they lived and breath these characters, their mannerisms are very accurate and they're unrecognizeable, they deserve any award they received for this film. Stunning performances and an easy to follow, but very interesting story, I would recommend My Week with Marilyn to anyone looking for a good drama or biography film. A young film studio assistant has a brief relationship with Marilyn Monroe as she films the Prince and the Showgirl. Best Performance: Michelle Williams
