My Girl Audience Reviews

Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Ava-Grace Willis Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Arnab Thokder Sometimes you listen to a particular old song, or you open a particular page of an old book, or you go and sit by the old playground you used to play, and thats it. The next few days, you won't sleep at night, sometimes you will laugh, and sometimes tears will flow along your cheek, silently, and ... alone... nobody else would know sweetness of that pain. This movie will make you feel exactly that.. and much more...The movie may not attract a lot of westerners. May be because they do not have these kinds of memories. But for the Asians, who in their childhood have struggled as well as enjoyed the meaning of childhood, this movie is the one. And if you don't want to interrupt your daily routine, this is not for you, because this will surely change you routines for the next few days.
mlin212 Just saw this film at the Thai Takes 2 festival and it is absolutely wonderful! Very poignant story of best friends (girl/boy) in their formative years, one of which is conflicted and yearning to hang out with the rest of the girls/boys. (You have to guess which...)The movie reminded me of growing up spending hours and hours hanging out with friends, riding your bike everywhere, and just not having a care in the world except ice cream and playing. Hilarious and touching. The gang is a really funny group of characters, each with a personality all of her/his own.A must see if you can find. Don't know if there will be a wider U.S. release but it definitely deserves one. Foreign independent films such as this one are so refreshing and worthwhile. Go see it!
Harry T. Yung SpoilersMy first encounter with Thai movies was Ruang talok 69, an entertaining noire comedy. My Girl is the second, and in an entirely different genre. The easiest thing to compare it to is Singapore's I Not Stupid, and the comparison yields immediate fruit. While I Not Stupid oozes sophistication of the city state, My Girl reflects the simple honesty of a Buddhist country's rural community it depicts.Despite the title, this is more of a coming of age movie than a romance yarn. In essence, pre-puberty Jeab oscillates between a group of guys he wants to play with and a group of girls, led by Noi-Naa, that he is playing with (playing the role of `dad' in the made-up family). With almost nonchalant complacency that belies his yearning for recognition in a peer group, he is shuttled back and forth between the two. The tricky thing is that he and Noi-Naa, being close neighbours whose mothers are good friends, have grown up together as closest buddies. This naturally becomes something that the guys make fun of. Through the relaxingly paced, light-hearted story, we share some of the joys and woes of Jeab, at least those of us, regardless of where in life we now are, remember those carefree days that we have all once experienced. Th ending carries certain thoughtfully placed poignancy. The technique of narration from a grown-up Jeab, however, eases the heartache a little. The whole film hinges of the centre character Jeab, and here, we have a very talented young chap Charlie Trairattana who captures the mood of this simple rural kid on the threshold of puberty. A somewhat different but equally impressive talent, compared to Haley Joel Osment's. Focus Jiratu playing Noi-naa has a fresh, wholesome charm that makes me put her slightly (albeit very slightly) ahead of Dakota Fanning. The supporting cast is wonderful. No wonder this Thai gem has become the darling of movie reviewers in town.
thewinner It's an honor for me to be the first to comment on this movie. I had a chance to see this film a few months ago. As a Thai guy, it flashes back my childhood memory and that made me smile all the way through the end. Even though it is not a high budget movie comparing to those from Hollywood, I believe that the simplified storyline is the strength of this movie. After watching this movie, I had a warm feeling and it really made my day. The movie also has some funny moments like 'the chinese martial art fantasy scene'. I can't guarantee if the non-Thai viewers will enjoy it but I am sure that most of the Thais will definitely like it. :D10/10 for a Thai.
