What if Apollo 11 never actually made it? What if, in reality, Stanley Kubrick secretly shot the famous images of the moon landing in a studio, working for the US administration? This is the premise of a totally plausible conspiracy theory that takes us to swinging sixties London, where a stubborn CIA agent will never find Kubrick but is forced to team up with a lousy manager of a seedy rock band to develop the biggest con of all time.

Moonwalkers Audience Reviews

Claysaba Excellent, Without a doubt!!
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
PiraBit if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Prismark10 Moonwalkers is a silly, hippy, trippy, violent comedy. A sort of Argo meets Snatch.Ron Perlman is Kidman an unstable CIA agent, a Vietnam war veteran assigned a task to hire filmmaker Stanley Kubrick to fake the moon landing in case the real one fails. He ends up giving money to a unsuccessful rock band manager Johnny (Rupert Grint) and his friend Leon (Robert Sheehan) who he thinks is the notorious publicity shy Kubrick.Once Kidman realises his error he goes after Johnny and Leon but they persuade him that they can really hire a director and fake the moon landing but along the way fall foul of some real gangsters. This is actually a low budget film, maybe too psychedelic at times and the ultra violence jars. I really did not think much of it as a comedy and tonally the film is all over the place.
dromasca If you are looking for 90 minutes of uninhibited politically incorrect fun, if you like retro movies about the late 60s or maybe you have lived those happy times and now you want to laugh about them, then 'Moonwalkers' directed by Antoine Bardou-Jacquet (at his first long feature movie) is the stuff that you are looking for.The year is 1969 and Apollo 11 prepares to put Neil Armstrong on the moon on live TV. They cannot fail as the moon race is above all a competition between super-powers and political systems (this IS true history, BTW). So plan B is put in place - get the best science-fiction film director (who else but Space Odyssey's Stanley Kubrik) direct a film moon landing which would be broadcast in the 66% (or was it 75%?) probability Apollo 11 fails. A Rambo-like CIA agent (Ron Perlman) with some psychotic trauma problems is send to do the job. Conspiracy theory meets retro films a la 'Austin Powers' in the crazy parody idea that triggers the film. Of course, many things will go wrong - the kind of 'wrong' that causes laughs. The execution is far from flawless, but I guess it is not supposed to be either. The film has enough gags (an average of one a minute) to compensate the huge holes in the story, and the combination between the 'macho' military attitude, the psychedelic rock scene atmosphere, and the late 60s cinema nostalgia (including several Kubrik quotes) works quite well. There are enough gross characters to meet, clash, punch, kill each other and especially to make us laugh. Perlman delivers as expected in the typology of the brainless CIA gorilla agent, while Rupert Grint of Hary Potter's buddy glory is confused enough to become funny all along. Do not ask too many questions, after all this is (also) a conspiracy theories movie. It's the kind of film one needs to get into the mood and just enjoy.
diggus doggus i swear, i remember writing a review for this film.Well, a few months late, here is my - short - review of the film Mookwalkers. It's fantastic.Go see it.Except that, you can't; for some weird reason, this fantastic gem of a film has been released only on a few screens in the US and with no promotion at all, and this after paying the salaries of both Rupert Grint and Ron Pearlman !!Moonwalkers is a light-hearted (but not buffoonish) take on the "moon landing hoax". Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter films) is Jonny, brother of some big-shot producer, during the 1960s UK cultural revolution. In debt, he shows up at his brother's office one day to ask for a loan, and through a misunderstanding, Ron Pearlman (here as Army Sargeant Kidman) assigns him the task of hiring Stanley Kubrick to film the faked moon landings. That's .. what you would see in the trailers. What you *do not* see in the trailers, is the absolute madness that comes out of this situation.I really cannot find any faults with this film; it's shot and directed flawlessly, Pearlman, Grint and the various supporting do a marvellous job, the plot is near-perfect. It's not a revolutionary film by any means, but it's a shame it did not get a proper release because it's a film that i truly believe everyone would enjoy.I heartily recommend you to find Moonwalkers on video-on-demand, it's available on quite a few services. I trust you will really like it.My vote, 8/10 - really, really well made film.
michaelhirakida Having no idea what this film was about, I decided to watch it on Netflix last night. I was absolutely blown away by how funny and original this movie is. It's probably one of the best comedies of the decade. Rupert Grint has only starred in so few movies after Harry Potter, but this movie proves he could be on top of the box office like Radcliffe and Watson. The plot is based on the moon landing conspiracies. Jonny is a unsuccessful band manager who is in deep trouble with a crime boss. When CIA Agent and Haunted Vietnam Fighter Kidman mistakes him for Stanley Kubrick's agent, he gets them to make a fake moon landing movie that would be shown live on TV. The money is stolen and Kidman teams up with Jonny and his drugged up pal Leon to make that fake moon landing film. The genius of Moonwalkers is it's atmosphere. The highly hostile and dangerous British Environment makes for some actual funny jokes and absolutely fun characters. The characters don't just develop, they grow. Kidman and Jonny are great to be around and have huge development leaps in characters. The other characters like Renatus, an art house film director are significant and hilarious. Leon is one of the best characters in the movie especially in the climax of the film when they are shooting the fake moon landing. This also happens to be a black comedy filled with heads exploding from sawed off shotguns, teeth being broken, many violent outbursts from Kidman and a violent climax that is nearly perfect. The movie is filled with surprises and laughs. Moonwalkers could become The Rocky Horror Picture Show of it's time if it was marketed better, had a wide release and had more critical praise. It's destined for a cult following.95/100 A
